So Illinois will be elevating their hockey program to D-I.

With STL quickly becoming a hockey hotbed, Mizzou needs to capitalize on this. I think the hockey rivalry would be more intense than the Braggin' and Arch rivalries.

SLU use to have a hockey team back in the 70's and they were pretty decent. As a matter of fact, one of their players played on the US team back during the miracle on ice Olympic Gold medal team.

It’s not worth it. Better to focus on the money sports and keeping the current non revenue sports competitive.
I would probably drop baseball and add soccer with both KC and STL having good soccer talent.

I assume Illinois is going D-1 to join the new Big Ten hockey conference.
I'm not sure what happened but when the Big Ten decided to siphon their schools away from their old conferences to form their own Big Ten conference the level of their flagship schools success sharply declined.
Since the split satelitte schools of the University of Minnesota (UM-Duluth, St. Cloud St.) are perennial powerhouses while traditional winners like the Gophers and Wisconsin are afterthoughts.
Not sure if it's a temporary blip or part of a new landscape in collegiate hockey.

Selmen and Herb Brooks were good friends.

I don't get the impression that Mizzou fans care much about college hockey (nor would that change much with a D-1 team. Outside of a pocket of Blues fans in StL, Missouri is not much of a hockey state. I'd rather see us invest in a D-1 men's soccer team.
