Should Mizzou Football be concerned about the future post Drew Lock, TBJ, and others?

Barry Odom is entering his 4th recruiting cycle, let's look at how his classes stack up to the rest of the conference.

247 Sports

2016 13th out of 14 teams (43rd overall)
2017 13th out of 14 teams (43rd overall)
2018 13th out of 14 teams (43rd overall)
2019 currently 14th out of 14 teams (52nd overall)

If Kentucky Football beats Mizzou again this season, it will be the 4th time in a row Kentucky has beaten Mizzou and recruited a higher rated class the following year.

Kentucky Football

When James Franklin left everyone knew the next guy was for sure Maty Mauk.

When Maty Mauk left, everyone knew for sure the guy was Drew Lock.

When Drew Lock leaves, who's that guy you can say for sure is the guy?

This program seems to have no direction post Pinkel.

Those type of classes produced the team we have now.

Identify and develop, but yeah...losing TBJ and Lock will hurt. That would hurt anybody really.

Problem is we lose the front 7 of an already mediocre defense.

I can only imagine how bad the defense will be next year.

Odom's days are numbered if he can't recruit.

I thought this was what was going to be in the ongoing coaching issues thread.

I'm not more worried than normal because this is basically the norm of what I've always known Mizzou recruiting as.

Pinkel couldn’t recruit either. He did ok.

Besides, this class is looking like it will finish pretty strong.

BO is going to be the coach of the Missouri Tigers for a long time. Get used to it.

Yet to be seen if he can find a QB.

More worried about who replaces Lock than Beckner. Elliot, Whiteside and Byers are already getting snaps and have shown an ability to make plays.

That's what was said about Matheny and the Cardinals.

With Lock in place no high end QB was going to before the 2018 class.

Lock’s development under Odom’s staff has been everything you would want as a fan. Huepel, Dooley, Carta-Samuels and McGee have done a great job with him.

I know a lot of you guys are itching to fire somebody for the sake of firing somebody but we are going to win at least 9 games this year.

He’s going nowhere. Let the man build. There is a learning curve for coaches too and he was thrown in the top league in the country with a bad situation. We’ve gotten better every year.

I feel as if mizzou is always bottom of the conference in recruiting ranking, but their team is usually pretty good. Y'all seem to be good at finding underrated players. What was j'mon moore, emanual hall, shane ray and albert o rated by 247?

All 3*, but we do compliment that with a few big time recruits and they rarely bust which is key. We’ve also found a good number of 2* kids that have turned into great players. Now most of that was Pinkel, but Odom is also showing a knack for it.

Our biggest problem in Odom’s tenure (recruiting wise) is that we were essentially shut off from St Louis for a period. We couldn’t get anybody. That has changed this cycle.

Not concerned. We will struggle next year. We will gradually have better seasons for a couple of years after that. We will then struggle the following year followed by, well you get it.

If you are trying to win the East, the SEC or lord forbid a national championship, then yeah, I'd be concerned. But I don't think that's Mizzou at this point. We'll make some meaningless bowl game 3 out of 4 years, rinse and repeat. That's just the history of Mizzou football for the most part. That's not a bad thing, just nothing that creates a buzz.

I expected Odom to learn a bit faster on the job, but I think he will be fine. He will get better, and I think we will be a team that averages 9 wins.

....and most of our fans and media are satisfied with mediocrity. I believe in my heart that we can recruit better and probably could average in the 20's rank-wise yearly. Our head coach and d-coordinator both came from Memphis and our defense plays like Memphis and we recruit like them.

When Odom and Walters were defensive coaches at Memphis they had an elite defense. The game plan against Georgia was really good, I expect other teams to follow it. There just aren’t any ends that can pressure the QB on this team right now.

Mizzou will beat Uk this year, and finish with a better recruiting class.

Bazelak looks good and hopefully he can be that QB and be ready for the 2020 season.

QB’s transferring from many schools can help with Drew Lock leaving.

Look back at the top QB’s in past classes. In 2015 2 of the top 4 transferred, 2016 3 top four have transferred, and already 1 of the top 4 in the class of 2017.

If we have the weapons we will have a good chance at a landing a top transferring QB.

Elite QB’s transfer more now than ever before Will Grier is an example of that.

I am not saying we will can get a elite transfer. If the coaching staff does not like what they see in Spring practices they can try.

When trying to place TBJ it is not possible with this class. We will have to hope that one of the recruits can step up.

Replacing other players that are leaving should not be hard to replace with what we have on the roster and new recruits.

He always recruited QBs well and developed them well.

Thus far Odom has done neither.
