I said it before. I think this is turning into a year of learning and adjustments for the players but also or more so for the coaching staff. It's a matter of observing other top tier teams, seeing where their recruiting priorities lie.

For so long now in the Big12, all those recievers may have been the better option for that conference. But now it proves to be detramental to the SEC style of play.

I think we can already see the recruiting turning slowly to a more split. As far as commits go we have around 10 offensive commits and roughly 7 defensive commits with possibly one more defensive commit comming during or after the Kentucky game.

So, I think Pinkel understands what he needs. All's he can do is go out and offer, then it's purely up to the recruits to finaly commit or not. They are definitely starting to work thier way into the southeast. It's just going to take time for these top tier kids to understand, you can play at Mizzou, or you can sit for a year at Bama or Georgia. I think they are starting tosee it now.

I have higher hopes for next year. We have some good recruits comming and the list keeps growing.

Point taken. I was talking more about the program overall and the level of talent relative to where it was when Pinkel started. And to be fair, they have done a pretty good job on the OL so far with the upcoming class.

I just hope that Pinkel isn't the kind of guy who would encourage the university to move to the SEC and then retire after the first year because it was incredibly disappointing.

He needs to be the one who figures this shite out. He needs to be the coach who gets Mizzou winning again or else he's a coward.

He will not turn tail as that would kill his legacy

I cannot ever envision a time where you would want that ratio of OL to Receiver. Think every offense needs to win the pit to win games. Every offensive play you need 5 starters on the Line, though I know in Yost's cannabis hazed world you must have 5 wide every play but to everyone else's existence you do not need nearly that depth. Considering the attrition on the lines that makes the ratio even worse. Sorry no arguments will alleviate the huge mistake Mizzou has made with OL recruiting for years.

I think this is a year of all of us rationalizing why we suck. Lets hope it doesn't carry over into next year. Call a spade a spade, and move on. Lets get what needs to get done in the offseason done, and we can go 6-6, 7-5 next year.

Scoff at that if you want to, but this program is back to square one in more ways than one. In a mid-level program these years happen, the key is getting back to 9 and 10 win seasons within 3 or so years. We don't do that and we are Kentucky, assuming Haith comes out clean from the NCAA.

You're telling me our LB's aren't talented enough? Come on man. Or deep enough? We have 3 legit SEC LBs, and their back ups are no slouches.

We're good enough in the backfield. We're talented enough up front on D. Basically our entire defense is good enough. Being on the field too much has hurt them. Plus the ridiculous amount of short fields we've given offenses hasn't helped their cause either.

WRs, QBs, and RBs are all talented enough... the o-line is the only position that is for sure lacking in talent and depth.

My comment was more directed at the over abundance of WR's and to a lesser extent RB's that we have.

Oline definitely needs upgrading but it's far from the only position we need to increase our depth and talent at.

I guess when you said the only positions we had it at was WR and RB.. I took it literally.

The program knows what and how it needs to recruit moving forward I think. Its just a matter of getting results on the recruiting trail.

I have a feeling there will be some adjustments in the off season to offensive gameplan. I dont think we will abandon the spread but it will take on a more meaty and power feel to it next year.

This exactly. I think they try and add a power run package to the spread. If we try and abandon it and move to a more traditional pro-style offense, then we look like Auburn. That's what they've tried to do this year with a new OC, and it's killing them because they don't have the personnel for it. They have a ton of talent, but they're losing games.

I still wouldn't be opposed to a change at OC though.

And guys, we don't suck. We are light years ahead of where we were 10 years ago. We have a solid program, that's been very consistent. What we're seeing is that SEC football is different than Big 12 football, which we knew, and that adjustments are going to be needed, which we also knew. It's just being driven home harder than we expected - and we have the #1 SOS in the country. If A&M had our schedule, they'd likely be in the same position. This is a down year for us -it is what it is, and we have to adjust and get better.

Yeah my post wasn't really clear with what I was trying to say. Oline is the most glaring need. The other positions have talent but I do think depth to that talent could be added. In other words, I'm more worried about adding depth to our dline more than I am to our WR's and so on.

10 years ago we would have lost to Bama, GA and USCe by 50. So I agree with you on that point. But I would also say that we are no where near the team we were 5 years ago either. Chase could run this system to near perfection. No one has come close since so maybe the system needs to change at some point.

The teams Chase ran were very good, and built for success in the Big 12 - not the SEC. The defenses were built to stop Big 12 teams - not SEC teams with their power running. I think even those teams would have adjustment problems this year.

We need to recruit a big, solid RB to add to the arsenal.
