Bryan Burwell a year ago, now this. Leukemia.

I rarely agreed with either, but it's always sad to see someone cut down before their time.

He played his Mr. Know-It-All curmudgeon role well. I'll miss him.

Now is not the time to say how I felt about him, so I'll simply say RIP

Rip. He was actually one of my favorites to listen to when he would go on radio shows. I know I'll miss hearing him.

+1000

Peace to his family.

The Post-Disgrace being the liberal rag it is, should die. And it is slowly.

The Morning After on 920 AM in St Louis has done basically a tribute show to Strauss all morning. Tony LaRussa, Ken Hitchcock, Ken Rosenthal, Derrick Goold all took the time to talk about him for a bit. It was nice to hear.

I completely understand why he wasn't always the most liked guy. As an outsider (I just moved to St Louis a couple years ago), I immediately took to him because of his penchant for commenting on the absurdity of the various local fan bases.

Joe Strauss, may he rest in peace, however, this is why I chose not to listen to him or read his stuff.

Let's get real here. If there were no sports fans, there wouldn't be a reason for these guys to have a job. So, in my mind, he was always biting the hand that fed him.

The pro sports fans didn't take near as much "criticism" as Mizzou fans. It's like, we just don't count. We're minor leagues, and he and others, would never admit that we had (up to this year) the best football in the entire state over the past 7yrs.

He wasn't alone in that attitude. Martin Kilcoyne is another. He's never been to Columbia, or Mizzou STL QB meetings, and relies on film crews bringing back the headlines, but he as no desire to even talk about Mizzou. And I think it's horrible that a TV sports director for Mizzou's largest fanbase would prefer to ignore us at best.

RIP Joe Strauss. Regardless of how I felt about his writing and opinions, I hate to hear this. Peace to his family and friends.

As much as he got in my craw...

He will be missed, a reminder that not all beat writers need to cow tow to a team and its fan base.

I still think he had a hard on for Mizzou though, and without much reason. I won't miss that.

His talk of the Cardinals and their fans made perfect sense however, and needed to be heard. Not to mention his constant dissing of Lambert Field, aka "Hooterville Airport".
