Positions with question marks

So I’m starting this thread to follow up in the morning.
Generally, Mizzou is positioned to have a good year with this schedule, and has the personnel to do it. However, it would be foolish to think there aren’t areas of concern.
I don’t have much information on some of the replacement pieces on D or on the O line. Linebacker, DE, DT depth (not starters) on defense, and the replacement O line personnel are areas I wonder about.
On the O line, we have Larry Borom and Case Cook I believe filling in for the departures. Both have size, but I’ve heard varying feedback on cook, and Borom is listed as OR on the first depth chart. Any thoughts here?
At DE, we have Sci Martin coming in as a juco transfer through LSU, and possibly Williams returning. Also, Hansford will have another offseason and has a high upside potential. DE is a big area needing improvement, and should help mitigate the deep pass issues we had trouble with last year. Do you think we improve enough this year to have a solid showing?
LB loses a lot, but returns a solid piece in Garret. Bolton is slotted to start, the depth chart is showing a 4-2-5 base. How do you think we progress here?
If each of these positions comes on strong this year, I think we can make a push for the East. Beating Georgia would be amazing, but I have that as a loss. Every other game is winnable on the schedule. But, if these positions are weaknesses, it could turn into an 8-4 type year again. Not really the step forward we’d like.
Anyone have insight? I’ve searched a bunch, but there’s just not much info out there. What are your thoughts?

Depth at RB is a slight concern.
DE is the biggest question mark imo.
As you said lost a lot at LB, but I like the pieces we have.
Punting game will most likely take a big step back.

I actually forgot that McCann is slated as the punter right now. I know we have a couple walk-ons, I don’t know anything about them.
I’m not too concerned at RB. Rountree, Badie, Bryant, make for 3 rushers that will be a dangerous combo. And don’t forget about Simi Bakare. He has the size at 6’ 200lbs, and he rushed for 1,700+ yards his senior season. He’s had a year to develop. So, there’s some depth there.

Badie is ok, and I think Bakare will eventually be good. I just wonder how those two will hold up all season with the extra carriers this year.
I guess what im trying to say is if Larry gets hurt, while badie and bakare are solid backs, Im not sure I want them as starts nor think the team will be very good if they are.

RB would be one of my least concerns.
The entire offense is pretty deep really, outside of WR but luckily Knox and Scott got some valuable experience last year. Should be really good in the slot. The outside is a bit of a question mark but that’s really it on offense.
DL depth is a question mark for sure. Can’t really afford many injuries here. Need a pass rush to develop.
Garrett is solid as a rock at MLB, but replacing Hall is going to be tough. I know the coaches love Bolton but he really needs to mature. He was out of position quite a bit last year. Miller is a much better athlete, and bigger so their choice of Bolton is a bit curious to me.
We have 2 NFL guys at CB. Best tandem we’ve had in a VERY long time. Sparks has experience behind them and the staff is high on Ware.
Safety also has to be a concern, but we do return both starters so hopefully we improve. I’ve heard several times that Gillespie is the best athlete on the team. I like Perkins in that nickel position. Smart player and a very sure tackler. We can go to a more traditional 3 LB look when we need to as well with Nathan (who impressed in the Spring Game) and Miller
We don’t have a punter either, so that’s not great

I can agree with that. There aren't proven starters behind LR3.

DE depth is rocky, DT depth is about as deep as it gets.

Badie was a Fr All SEC last year. His game is comparable to Marcus Murphy's. He is a legit weapon.

The only guy we have behind the starters with any kind of experience is Utsey. Seems like they’ll float Byers between DE and DT to cover a bit of that up

Right. Badie was very impressive last year. Also a nice receiver out of the backfield. Bakare also had some nice runs in limited action last year. Then add Watkins who obliterated Texas football last year.
Rountree has always been very durable. I can’t see having many concerns with this group

The coaches think Gillespie is an NFL safety. Year 3 has seemed to be the year most Mizzou safeties make a leap in production.

Byers added weight in the offseason. Odom stated he’s up to 295. Perhaps he’ll push through his limits from last year. Good potential there.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Watkins passes bakare.

Hope you are right. Feels like Willie Mo is the last safety we had that we were excited about going into the season. We have had a couple you felt OK about being there, but no big expectations.
It's been awhile. We have recruited many that I was excited when they committed (Hilton, Ross, etc.), but it's been awhile since we have seen difference-making play from the safety spot.

I'm not very happy with how the Safeties have been coached. A majority of the long passing plays were due to busts on the back end of the defense. I can handle losing a battle on a 50/50 ball but that's not what was happening. There were plays on the seam coming open so early the pass rush had no shot at getting home.

His room is the biggest question mark on the team. Do you really think Hargreaves and Haley are going to put an incompetent front 7 on the field?
