Going to be tough to accomplish, especially with young players getting second half reps. Buffalo isn't a great team but they run a lot of inside zone and if they can get a young safety looking in the backfield....well, coverage busts happen.

Don't care. Clean up the mistakes, take away Cooks Red Bull, get the younguns' some playing time.

The final series was played by all freshman except for one sophomore. I didn't notice a difference and didn't pick up on that until after the game.

That D may end up being deep as hell. The secondary is really playing quick.

Don't really care about shutouts. Care about playing good fundamental football and not making silly mistakes. Want to watch those deep throws and hopefully Cook is not overthrowing the group.

Just gimme a good ole HCGP clean game. If Drink got this team humming fundamentally like Gary did with the big TO differential he had in some seasons, make some serious noise.

I like that our D looks better this year over last year. We lost a lot of talent and our DC. Makes me wonder how much the D underperformed last year.

It was Murray State. Im all for pumping the brakes a little regarding the D play vs last season.

The last time Buffalo's QB played at Faurot, his team rushed for 294 yds in Steve Wilks debut as DC

Wilks was utter dog shite here and a complete moron for trying to change what had previously worked.

Ahhhh the old "read and react" defense......we were only bad at 2 of those.

I wasn't a big fan of the hire either, but it was timed with a huge step back at DT and LB. The interior two deep was very weak overall. It was pretty much a 3 man rotation Byars, Whiteside, and Wingo, with Wingo arguably being the best of the 3. Without Bolton to spill plays back inside, and the DTs getting pushed back into his lap, Devin Nicholson took a major step back and eventually lost his job to Chad Bailey. Blaze Alldredge played hard be he could be taken out of the game. He and Manuel did their best to corral RBs that were hitting their level untouched.

It all led to Davis and Baker getting promoted which were net positives for the program.

No matter how bad the opponent, we have not had a defensive performance like the murray state game in a LOOOOONG time. Last year's D was not great. it is fine to start the comparisons as we need to be a lot better than last year on D.

Only Georgia and Bama had better scoring defenses during SEC play and Baker had the best RZ defense in the league with the lowest scoring % and Fewest TDs allowed. This was with a very diminished Rakestraw for 3/4 of the season and the 2nd string LBs for half the season.

The game vs UF wasn't great but the defense kept the offense in the games vs UGA and LSU. Cook threw 4 ints vs two of the best offenses in the nation. Tough to win facing those momentum changes when the other team has elite talent and short fields.

I thought the defensive staff did a helluva job last year.

I thought the defense was very solid. Wasn't amazing, wasn't elite, but solid.

We had several NFL players and were not really great at anything. We need to be improved this year. The excuses for last year need to stop. Time to move on.

Shutout at the half. They've hit the QB several times and it's speeding up his throws
