I thought Walters did a nice job this year, specifically when you take into account that the offense completely ranked after Ole Miss and we couldn’t get any pass rush.

It was year 4, with his guys, and they were the weakest position group on the defense. 34% of the completed passes allowed went for 15+ yards. While I don't have a spray chart, an overwhelming majority of those throws were at the seams. I really don't care if Roof comes or not. I'm ready for something other than obviously being in Man 1 on third down with a PI/holding penalty or chunk passing play extending the drive.

I agree. That stats were improving, but.....

The pass rush was not. Still nonexistant.

Good teams could pick apart a Walters defense with no worry about adjustments to shore up the holes.

Tennessee won its game this year by simply throwing to whoever Bledsoe was covering anytime they needed a first down or big play. ALL GAME LONG.

This was indicative of too many games for Walters' defenses. Wasn't always Bledsoe, but lack of adjustment or ability to adjust was a problem way too often.

Shawn Clark has been named interim HC at App St so I would assume he is not coming along for the ride.

There is no way to plug holes on the backend when the QB has 8 seconds to throw. It’s impossible. DB is by far the hardest position on the field and it only gets harder when they aren’t getting any help.

We had the #7 pass defense in the country. Thats damn good even when adjusting for context. I feel we get a lot of familiarity bias when evaluating our own team. Defending the pass is HARD. Walters did a nice job this year all things considered

I sure hope this new head coach can get the coaches needed to be competitive and recruit well in order to keep up with everyone else in the SEC. That is what Sterk must have seen in this guy to build a good coaching staffs.

How long do you think he will take to get all his staffs in order?

Well, he’ll at the very least need to be officially hired before he can hire anyone else

I’m not sure how much of the success the D had this year was due to Walters. I would be worried about him without Odom looking over his shoulder.

Please don’t bring Roof. I can definitely see him doing so, but he should be using the much larger asst pool and the exposure a SEC coordinator gets to attract a better candidate.

That is good to know. This is going to be interesting to see who he will have on the staffs when it is all set and done. That is the one key I am hoping would be much better than what Barry Odom have had on his last staffs.
