Always was skeptical of Pinkel's decision to essentially pull out of TX recruiting when it had paid such huge dividends for us in the past.

Odom seems to be doing the exact opposite and committing a ton of resources in the Lone Star State.

Nice to see. 5 of our 10 commits are now from TX.

Agreed. It was a mistake to leave (or deemphasize) Texas after all the years spent making connections.

Plus it's obvious as an Okie Odom feels it's home turf. Great move.

We (as a state overall) have a lot of connections to Texas economically and culturally. Makes total sense to parlay that into recruiting. Not sure on official numbers, but I'd bet Texas is #4 for providing regular students to the university (behind MO, IL/Chicago, and ks)

It also helps that the only team from the SEC in texas has a coach that could very well be on the hot seat.

Nice work BO!

I may be wrong but it seems that in the past we've had a good number of recruits from Missouri City, Texas, lol. Fitting.

GPs highest rated class (2010 class) had 9 players from Texas and they averaged a 5.68 3* player. The 5 so far average 5.7 3*s.

The class currently has a 3.1 average star rating. Win some games and the staff will pass the 2010 3.3 average star rating in their first full recruiting cycle.

Texas A&M doesn't usually recruit and offer the same type of players from Texas that Mizzou does. Mizzou usually goes after the same type of player that TCU, Texas Tech, and Houston goes after.

I think the decision was based more on staff numbers and the fact that a lot of new territory opened up when we joined the SEC. We just didn't have enough guys to recruit everywhere. Personally I don't care where our recruits come from as long as they take care of business when they get here.

Bruce Walker wasn't terribly effective as the primary recruiter in Texas. Given time, Odom and Ricker could have normalized the #s in Texas but 2015 happened.

Other than Ford all of the current staff have major recruiting ties in Texas.

Arkansas, Missouri, and to a lesser extent LSU need to be able to recruit well in Texas I think.

LSU produces a ton of home grown talent but their ability to cheery pick recruits from Texas has helped improve them quite a bit. Arkansas and Missouri, except for a few loaded years, don't produce enough in state talent to do without poaching from other areas and Texas is the closest and easiest for both schools to do so.

You want to take talent where ever you can find it, but Texas is a mighty big fishing hole.

Might be, I don't know. Just figured there were quite a few KC on kansas side.

Surprised DC and Denver were so big. Knew DC would have some, but not that many. Denver really surprised me.

I think a staff issue exacerbated the issue Missouri had in Texas during the 2014 and 2015 classes. MU had been winning with 20+ Texas recruits on the roster since 2006. Walker and Jones weren't selling an unknown commodity in 2014 coming off a 12 win season and Cotton Bowl Victory. They landed 2 non factors in the first class as the primary recruiters in Texas. Walker was gone that July. Jones is now the RB coach at Central Methodist in Fayette MO. Yost did a lot of solid work in Texas that was missed when he left.

A lot of people were calling for his head last fall, but 3 of the players that committed last weekend are from Cross's recruiting area. Two are going to join his room.
