What about the hole that he missed?
To be fair the other RBs also missed holes on several carries.

Yeah, just pull it. The rest of our RBs suck.
I would hold off for a couple weeks. It's really a numbers game. Mizzou will run about 40 times a game.
Coaches want Hansbrough to get about 20 of those.
Mauk will probably run another 10-12 a game.
The WR screen game will be incorporated into the game plan, coaches consider that a run.
Which will only leave about 5-10 rushes to be split by the other RBs.
Witter, Steward, Abbington, & Walters will all be given a chance to prove themselves. If they fail over the next 3-4 games then maybe use Doherty.

not a huge Witter fan BUT what holes this last weekend, the OL was pathetic

Ish Witter is an example of a 'futures pick'.
The staff wanted/wants to get into Florida.
This is what happens when you take guys for the sake of taking guys.
He doesn't belong.
Hopefully he understands and processes himself sooner than later.

The second half of last season, all SEC games, Witter averaged over 5.5 ypc. He's really good in pass protection. He's just not a #1 back at this point in his college career.

That's not fair to say at all. You don't like him, and you didn't like him when the staff picked him. But there's a reason they're coaches who make these decisions and you/we aren't.
He has upside, as noted in his ocming and pass protection. And he averages 5.5/carry. I agree that he's not the #1 back but he has a role to play, clearly.

He had 27 carries all last year.
Surely some of those were in non-conference, which is almost irrelevant bc 27 carries is still very small.
Bringing up his average yards per carry is really silly.

Semo..
When are the snacks ready?
The zamboni is just cleaning up the end zone, the 4th period is about to start.
*I sorry.

The snacks will be ready at half past kiss my arse.
I don't even know what the rest of that is supposed to mean. Too many mixed sports metaphors.

As a comparison Hansbrough had 37 rushes as a freshman. Averaged 0.1 ypc more than Witter. And 1 fewer TD.

Can you tell me the WAR on Ish and Russ so we can compare.
Please.. sometimes the eyes and heart have to do some of the talking.
You're taking stats a little too literal here.
Ish runs soft. The staff doesn't like him. He's just what they have at the moment..

I really don't expect him to have as many carries as he had Saturday very often this year.
Hansbrough will have 16-22 if healthy.
Mauk will have 10-12.
Leaving only 5-10 for other RBs.
So really only expect him to have maybe 2-5 touches a game.
He was better in the second half Saturday. Looks like he progresses/gets better as a game/season goes on.

If he can increase his ypc by .3 each game in the second half with an aggregate multiplyer of 1.2 per carries to the right side divided by yards after the catch, he'll have above replacement value as a #2 RB.

Unless Doherty flops in baseball he will be gone in 3 years. Draft stock and leverage go to zero if you're a senior playing baseball

I would expect the #2 RB to get more than 2-5 touches per game. Now, it's an issue when he's the #2 back but when it's glaring is when what happened against SEMO happens. I'm not big on him becoming the whipping boy because we shouldn't eat our own, but I just don't like the way the guy plays. He runs soft, he has poor vision, and he has the uncanny knack of getting absolutely destroyed every other time he touches the ball. I fear for his safety every time he touches the ball. The only thing he has on any other RB is that he played last year.
Our RB situation is really inexcusable. We have 7 scholarship RBs and only one guy that is SEC caliber. That's terrible. The one other guy who might be is being pointlessly redshirted.
I'd sit Russ this week, and maybe next. We aren't going to be a player in the East without him and I'd hate to see him reinjure his ankle in either of these two games.

I agree, it seems Witter is #2 by default. From what I've read Walters was well on his way to being #2 before he got hurt, hopefully he can come back strong in October. Besides Witter all you have is an injured Walters, a recovering (still) Stewart, an out of shape and late arriving Abbington, and a walk on. To be successful, we need Witter to step up big time, or what I hope to see is Stewart get better as the season progresses and take over the #2 spot. He's a bigger, stronger back, but he's still rusty as shown last Saturday. He'd probably have played more if he could block some, he missed a block that caused Mauk to either get sacked or hurried the throw, don't remember which, but if you can't block, GP won't play you.
Posted on 9/11/15 at 9:49 am to mosoblkcougar
And the walkon is still dealing with a groin injury.

Right now he's not a #2. He just doesn't hit the hole or the area where the hole is supposed to be with any authority like RH or even TH.

hence the reason I said pull his jersey and play him, you'ed expect a center fielder to have some skill at getting under a punt at the very least.
if he can't pickup the playbook quick enough that's another issue but our offense is anything but the work of a mad scientist, I'd worry about anybody that can't run our plays.
Witter's top end looks to be about another Kendial Lawrence, adequate as a B12 backup, but no way he's a feature back in the SEC.
Our rough diamond RB well seems to have finally dried up, now we're pretty much relying on Strong and Anderson. Meanwhile UGA will be what 3 maybe 4 deep at Heisman RB candidates. While I'm fine w/ Strong and Anderson(Mo and Tx) maybe time to start looking at Ga for some talent here.
