For "blackface picture." I saw the picture and my first thought was a guy dressing as Flavor Flav. I didn't see hate, I saw a white guy who went all in on his costume. IMO, they got this wrong.

Is there a link or anything?

The world is upside down with PC drone thinking at the moment.

Meh. I got no problem firing someone for being an idiot. The fact that he doesn't understand the racial overtones associated with blackface makes me feel all the safer now that he got fired.

He's young. He'll get a job at Pizza Hut.

ETA - Also wouldn't have given a shite if he wasn't fired.

Not me......"racial overtones" is the fancy way of saying "let's not give those over there a faux reason to cry like a 3 yr old. This country needs to grow the hell up.....that includes the faux outragers and the dude with the shoe polish on his face.

There are none. It is a completely fabricated outrage based on nothing.

You are entitled to think it is ok. Not trying to change who you are. Be what you are.

I agree with faux outrages. Anyone asserting that society is crumbling because someone dressed in blackface is equally an idiot.

I'd also suggest that simply expressing an opinion that someone is a racist falls far short from outrage. To me, it's no different that me saying someone has a high IQ. Just because I say someone is intelligent doesn't mean I'm outraged at them. I'm just stating my observation of that person. When someone acts as a racist, it is possible to state such not out of outrage but simply as an observation. As far as I care, continue being a racist. It doesn't bother me. (generic you. not you you)

I agree it's possible but I can't recall ever seeing it.

There’s things you do and things you don’t do.

I was raised in Rolla, Missouri and my mom would have been horrified if I showed up to any event in blackface at any point in my life. And I’m not young. She would have been equally horrified by racial jokes because she knew people would assume that we weren’t raised correctly if we talked like that or acted like that.

Manners aren’t political correctness. And acting like a human doesn’t mean society is falling apart. I would have no problem for firing a guy who has such little grasp of the niceties of human behavior that he felt that was ok. I have a hard time believing anyone doesn’t understand what is in and out of bounds for normal polite society.

absolutely agree...but, if he was trying to do a Flava Flav costume, and it's obvious that's what he is trying to do, then shouldn't the conversation be "I see what you're trying to do, but it went to far." Isn't a little too much to fire the guy 1 year later, especially since he wasn't on the force when the pic was taken.

Peoples sense of humor is all over the board. I'm sure it seemed like a good idea in his head, but if it offends, discus it, use our words. Just my opinion.

Yeah. I agree with all that.

It’s virtually impossible to discuss anything surrounding culture, politics, race or religion with more than three people present these days.

Everything is black or white, one or the other. It's like people can't think anymore(not that they ever could). Blackface is intended to denigrate an entire race of people. A good Flavor Flav costume is a good Flavor Flav costume. Not the same at all

Maybe he should have done Eminem or Vanilla Ice and he wouldn't have had to put on Black face. Be smart in these days and times with all the racial tension that's going on today. He could have gotten away with it back during the Al Jolson days.

Sorry. He’s a fricking idiot. You see people going white face? Black face has a very negative, racially charged history. Nothing stopping you from dressing up like MJ, etc. Just don’t go the ducking black face route. That’s just dumb as frick.

Do share this history. I can't find anything other than the media telling everyone it is bad. It seems racist to say black color anything is denegrating. Why can't it be complimentary? It is racist to say it can only mean one thing.
