Gotta give Walter's his due. Number 1 in the SEC in a few categories. Top 5 in all categories. All the SEC schools play cupcakes this time of year, so opponents are expected to be soft. Congratulations and keep it up.

Troys offense is 32nd, which is surprising but hasnt been challenged, followed by ole miss 80th, vandy 41st, and UK 66th. Defense shouldn't be too challenged for a while.

Neither should the offense. Troy and Ole Miss have terrible defenses.

On a side note, Wyoming is 4-1, so while still a bad loss that shouldn’t happen, they will look like a good G5 team at the end of the season.

He made solid adjustments on how he was using the hybrid position after the Wyoming game. It helped speed up the offenses to a point where they were getting the ball out before the plays had much time to develop. Now that there are three weeks of tape on it, teams are going to adjust.

My only concern with the defense is that the stats are a result of the opponents and not necessarily anything our D is doing.

It seems like the opponents are continually missing wide open WRs and not punishing us for mistakes. Hopefully it turns out this is all the result of our D pounding them to the point of being disoriented and not just inept.

Well, they wouldn’t be THIS good without it having anything to do with our defense. It’s a good unit. Now, expecting them to hold Georgia to 13 probably isn’t realistic but it’s a good unit

Now the line is Troy vs Missouri -25. That is what Missouri should be getting the respect they deserve this year. Last year and the year before not much. I think this year is for real and Missouri is proving it on the field except the first game. Been bulldozing other teams on the defense side so far. Offense shall pick up after having a bye week last week. This is what Missouri got to keep the faith and show it on the field every week from now on. No more flop!

It's kind of a shame the WVU game had to come during such a rebuilding year... would have been a better measuring stick in recent years.

Also interested to see what they do at Kentucky... It will definitely be louder than Wyoming, we all know that. If we are even going to even think about running with Georgia in Athens then we slap UK around by a lot. Others need to see us beat people down on the scoreboard to be impressed. In an ideal world we can get ranked pretty high by the time we have to go to Athens.

How soon we forget how bad our defense has looked against bad teams in the past. Every SEC except LSU and Auburn has played a schedule beneath their station. Mizzous numbers are damn good no qualifying is necessary.

Whether they were shite teams or not, the defense has done what is asked of them 3 our of 4 times. The true test will be moving forward.

Neither WVU or SC attacked the space vacated by Perkins with screen action or attacked the bubble with the TE or RB. That could put a considerable amount of stress on a pair of LBs that are much better suited to playing downhill.

SC completely changed their game plan against Mizzou, because they feared the interior of Mizzou’s DL. Tells you all you need to know about the job Haley has done.

I should clarify. The stats right now indicate we could have a top 10 national defense. I hope that is the case.

I think even if it isn't, it is likely a top 30 defense.

IMO, if this D is legit then we have to finish top 5 or 10 nationally because UGA is the only potent offense we are going to face all year. If we fall outside the top25 it would be a disaster.

What are you basing this off of? A majority of the route combinations SC used are specifically used to beat quarters coverage. The one time they went at the bubble on the boundary, they took it to the house. But that was the only play I remember hitting the bubble. Everything else was fade/out or vert/slant/arrow out of some variation of trips.

Announcers during the Kentucky/USC game. They talked about USC changed what they do to avoid Elliott.

Right on. They certainly quit trying to run the ball early. I'm looking more at how the teams moving forward are going to throw the ball if Perkins is going to commit to getting into the back field on early downs.

Correct. And I think we should see improvement this year. Staying there given the schedule would not be good.
