Thoughts on our season opener? It's been awhile since we've played a P5 opponent on the road for a season opener. I honestly don't know much about this WVU team. I know they usually have a pretty good offense but how does their defense look? Morgantown is a tough place to play, but I think we squeeze out of there with a win. Our defense should be able to keep us in every game we play this season. Shelton Gibson scares me though. He's pretty quick. I hope we can cover him or it's going to be like that Syracuse game in 2012 all over again.

I'm so ready for football season. All aboard the wiBO ship!

And it's an 11:00am game

Week 1 is stacked with good games this year so we got the shaft.

Here's Shelton Gibson's numbers last year.

quote:

Ranked No. 2 in the NCAA, No. 1 in the Big 12, in yards per catch (23.97)
Ranked No. 11 in the NCAA, No. 3 in the Big 12, in kickoff returns for TDs (1)
Ranked No. 28 in the NCAA, No. 6 in Big 12, in receiving TDs (9)

MU is laying points because of the unknowns on offense but MU's defense can win this game. WVU offensive line doesn't match up well with MU's front 7 and Demontie Cross and Jackie Shipp are familiar with what Holgerson will try to do. Cross helped game plan a beat down by TCU's defense against them and Shipp's defensive front slowed down of the best rushing attacks in the country in the bowl game while helping amass 10 TFLs.

WVU is replacing a 5 players in the second level of the defense and they lost 61% of their TFLs to graduation. This is a defense that allowed 40 pts per loss last year and didn't beat a conference opponent that had a winning record. WVU's front 3 is pretty good but being able to take advantage of inexperience/communication issues should favor Heupel, Elarbee, and Hill's positions groups.

Skyler Howard is getting a lot of credit from the media for blowing up an atrocious ASU secondary in their Bowl game. WVU allowed 88 TFLs last season, 2nd to last in the Big 12. I will go on record right now and say that MU's front 7 dominates this game and if the offense can scratch out 21 pts, they will win by double digits.

They were very average when facing the better B12 defenses. 24 PPG in their B12 losses and only scored more than 30 vs Baylor who rolled up 60 on them.

I dont know how much we win by, but if we score more than 21 we win.

Just like what we lacked from last year, a running game. Should improve just a tad, and just a tad would mean your top 5 defense will probably be top 3.

I think they're highly thought of bc they bring almost everybody back

Gonna be a good game. I just can't predict wins until I'm shown we can find the end zone

Good for us, since it's a road game. Crowd won't be much of a factor.

I think we win the game. Their defense is awful, and they just lost a probably their best DL who will be suspended. Should be a good confidence boost for our offense, and give Odom this much time to prepare for an air raid offense? Yeah...

WVU was double digit favorites last I saw. Free money, basically.

Y'all might not win, though I think you do, but double digits?

Not with the defense you have and the defense they have.

If I had to make a pick... Mizzou wins a close one with a subpar but efficient offense and a dominant defense.

Probably better to play them @ 11 am than at night. Don't let the student section get too rowdy. Sometimes you can catch teams that haven't woken up yet in the first half on the road!!

Likely our worst game of the year. First game, new staff, new players in new positions, new system, quality opponent. Our most likely loss.

Not saying we will lose, but have realistic expectations. Likely will be a much better team by the time the conference rolls around

I think we can win by 3 tucker McCann FGs.

There will prolly be several miscommunications in the first half with a new offensive scheme on the field.

If we lose by more than 7, its a precursor to a shite season.

I'm not as optimistic as some on this thread and I have no idea how this game will pan out.

If the team progresses as I expect where our offence gets slightly better and the defense plays lights out then I think we win. We'll need to keep them out of end zone their first 3 or 4 possessions so our offense can get in sync.

I'm defiantly more optimistic right now than I was when Pinkel retired. BO has put together a good coaching staff and has filled some holes with JUCO players and transfers. I'm hoping the transfers will have a chip on their shoulder and will want to prove some thing since they weren't starters on their previous teams. If we beat WVU then I can see a 7-5 or 8-4 season. Even if we don't win I think Odom can muster up a 6-6 season with our schedule.

Only 37 days until kickoff!!!!!!!

Suppression of thought is real here.

You have sacrificed nothing until you have found freedom of thought, because around here you will be sacrificed for that thought.
