Just got back from COMO. The atmosphere was awesome yesterday. The student section was almost full and rowdy 2 hours before kickoff. No one in our group of six has a voice today.
The NEZ is even more impressive in person. There was a 160 ton 5 axle crane in the pit and it was dwarfed by the structure. The AD should commence fund raising immediately to complete the bowl in the SEZ so the capacity will be back up to around 70k and balance the look. Who cares what it costs.
They have to reduce the unforced errors. Penalties by Tollison/Young and Beau coughing the pill factored into 21 of kU's 31 points.
Still not a fan of Moore's 1st half play calling. kU's front 7 is built to get after the QB and his early calls played into their strength. The lack of screens and waiting to involve Norfleet in the passing game is a head scratcher. He did eventually wear them down with the run game and the line held up well in second half pass pro.
What Roberts lacks in wiggle he makes up with power and long speed. He and Hardy are going to be exciting to watch this year.
Coleman has outstanding ball skills and works his butt off when the ball isnt coming his way. His blocking sets the tone for his room. Their blocking is why Hardy and Roberts hit long runs runs yesterday.
Batoon had a solid plan. kU went 3-11 on third down because the run game was taken away by the LBs and the front controlled their depth of rush. Daniels had to throw outside the #s from the pocket to move the sticks. He hit a few but overall the plan held the offense to 24 points and let the offense get back in the game.
The true freshman kicker did a nice job but overall Link's special teams are still questionable.

Watched the broadcast. Those refs made some interesting calls/non-calls They missed a blatant 3rd down PI on Johnson in the endzone that led to a FG. It was Smith not Young that was called for the face mask....that was not a face mask. That should have been a 3 and out. It moved the chains and led to 3 points.
They ran quite a bit of 12 personnel again but didn't throw out of it very often. I'd like to have seen them attack the seams with Norfleet and Harris.
They got the win and style points dont matter but they left a little meat on the bone IMO.

2 things; first it's early in the season and 2nd, it's only bad if it doesn't work out.

Its a 2+ year trend with Moore. Honestly, the first half scoring offense has been pretty meager the entirety of Drink's tenure. There's no reason for the offense spend most of the first half spinning the wheels with the skill talent they have.

That three and out in the 4th quarter where we just ran the ball 3 straight times was egregious by Moore and any elite team would have capitalized.

I agree but we know that is not happening.

Agreed. Those are situations where the TEs need to be running routes other than shallow crosses. Get them on the seam vs the two high looks and force the LBs to make a play away from the box. I was skeptical entering the season but Beau can put the ball where he wants to. Give the TE's chance to make a play or draw a flag. Coleman and Johnson are going to be drawing attention and the TEs should flourish in the middle of the field.

You are probably right, but if Drink can keep winning they will be able to justify another expansion. If it isnt making the SEZ look like it should, maybe its an expansion of the west side to include extending the box to the ends and adding a level above it so new lights can be added to match the east side.
Trevor Matich said during the halftime show that Faurot is a sneaky tough place to play because of the noise. It was loud with 60k on Saturday. Getting capacity back to 70k is a must IMO.
Edit: it would also give them an opportunity to build different camera mounts so everyone on the rant will quit complaining about the camera angles

I've already decided I like Coleman for team success over Burden. Less selfish, and we don't have to throw a few plays away per game to force touches to him. Does the little things better than Burden, and still is exciting to watch with the ball.

I'm enjoying hearing some of the podcasters dismay that Beau Pribula turned out to be a good pocket passer. They thought he was supposed to be just a running quarterback.
Eli struck gold in the portal...again.

It's basically for illegal batting and for the punt kick off. I'm sure that facemask was also somewhere up there.
I thought the crew was a bit sloppy but I don't think they affected the end results.

There was a missed block in the back on a kick that set-up their third touchdown and the phantom facemask that led to points.

I will never dog on Burden. He was a huge recruiting win for the staff. He was mercurial at certain points but he made so many big plays when the team needed him to. He cheered his teammates on. He blocked his position. His success brought several former Missouri HS recruits back through the portal. It's possible that Coleman isn't here without Luther's time on the team. Im glad they both decided to wear Black and Gold.

I think you'll be surprised at how much more further they are on the stadium in a week.
