Heard a rumor that Smith and Ricker got into an argument recently. Smith quit his volunteer position in the weight room shortly after. A family friend that works for Justin hint* hint*, said Smith was criticizing Ricker on how poor the offensive line has performed.

Me too. The guy I heard it from is a really good source. After the argument, I guess Smith was just like "frick it, I don't have enough time for this bullshite"

Mizzou released a think last week, said "Smith was busier than expected". & "hoped he would be able to work with Mizzou in the future".

Yup, heard the same thing on another board. Sad thing is Smith was right, Ricker has done a right shite job this year with the OL. Last year too until GP made him switch back to the blocking schemes that Walker used to use.

Dave Matter said only that Smith was no longer getting a check. He didn't give any explanation. I wondered what was up.

Smith is no dummy and a straight shooter. Ricker is over his head as a SEC OL coach, IMHO. Here is a little smoke to prove that there is probably fire. HCGP has to do something.

Losing Smith is a blow...to the players, coaches, fans, public relations, and recruiting.

If a homeboy like Smith, who bleeds Black and Gold, calls it quits on the team, you KNOW there's trouble (and anger) in paradise.

Why would a HC or OC let a position coach run a scheme that doesn't work?
That's just as much on Pinkel and Henson. Tell your position coaches what scheme you want them to run.

Maybe Zone Blocking is what Ricker is schooled in as a coach. Maybe Pinkel made him change last year because Ricker didn't have a full offseason to teach his approach but thought he could make it work this year.

So why hire a guy that can't coach/teach the scheme that you use?
Bring him in & teach him how to teach what you want to run, or get someone that can to begin with.

Of course you're right, I was just trying to make sense of the situation.

Me too. This guy shouldn't be coaching at the D-1 level. He has little to no experience coaching an offensive line at the D-1 level. 1 year of experience at Illinois before he got hired here! This guy is in way over his head. GP hired him because he is a former player of his and nothing more. He is clearly a bust hire and needs to be fired. Don't get me wrong I want Henson and Ricker gone but if I had to chose which one to fire if I couldn't fire both It would be Ricker by a landslide. At least then we could move Henson back down to O-line coach and hire a new OC.

There is no reason...no reason...why our upperclass linemen should be playing like Special Olympians at this stage in their careers.

Except...we KNOW the reason.

Florida has the youngest O-line in the country yet look at how much better they are playing than our 5 SENIOR starters. Two of which were expected to be drafted at the beginning of the season. It's absolutely inexcusable. It's like AJ Ricker sat at home and played Xbox all day during the off-season and just told the players to go practice at their own pace.

OLine has been shite the last 2 years really. Ricker needs to go, as does his zone blocking garbage that allows guys to just walk into the backfield untouched.

Mizzou has a serious loyalty problem, and by that I mean they hire people who are not qualified for the job just because of their ties to the university. This "true son" bullshite needs to get bent. Go hire people who can do the job, not alumni.

Who's zone blocking scheme is it? Is it Ricker's? Or is it Henson's?
If it's Ricker's why isn't Henson in a position to tell each offensive assistant what schemes they will be running?

Did Smith and Ricker cross playing years at Mizzou? I ant remember.

Either way; good for Justin for calling it like it is. I hope that in a few weeks time, Ricker won't be employed as a part of ou program any longer. Seriously. Heads need to roll over this dumpster fire.

Hopefully Smith will come back at some point.
