I’m not sure the roughing the kicker was the right call.

When it becomes obvious that A1 intends to kick in a normal punting position, defensive players must avoid him after he kicks the ball.

quote:

Team A is in a scrimmage kick formation. Punter A1 moves laterally two or three steps to recover a faulty snap, or recovers a snap that went over his head, and then kicks the ball. B2 contacts A1 in an unsuccessful attempt to block the kick. RULING: A1 does not automatically lose his protection in either case unless he carries or possesses the ball outside the tackle box. While in the tackle box A1 is entitled to protection as in any other kicking situation. When it becomes obvious that A1 intends to kick in a normal punting position, defensive players must avoid him after he kicks the ball.

When was it obvious that the kicker was going to kick?

Also:

Contact can occur with a player who is kicking if:

It's incidental and happens after the defensive player has touched the ball first while it's in the air
The kicker causes the contact with their natural motions
It happens during a rugby kick or quick kick
It happens when the kicker runs with the ball
It happens when the kicker picks up or falls on a fumble
It happens only because a defender is blocked or pushed into the kicker by a player on the kicker's team
It happens because a player on the kicker's team commits another penalty"

Horse shite call all the way. I hope the refs get heckled all the way home.

If they weren't in a kicking formation then the same roughing the passer rules apply. Was the defender within a step of the QB at the time of the punt?

Interesting enough, if a Mizzou player would have fielded that punt prior to it crossing the line of scrimmage, it would have been illegal touching.

Hopper and maybe KAD to the NFL. Coleman is a senior. Jeffcoat is a senior.

No, Coleman and Jeffcoat are out of eligibility. Robinson and McGuire too. I also think Rakestraw declares. Seems like he’s done with college

We’ve got talent to backfill all of this though

Also it was not clear he was kicking. He recovered the ball took 2 steps then bam kick out of nowhere.

This call would never be called against Alabama or any other Blue Blood school.

It maybe the rule, but it is a bad call. Similar to how a QB is hit as he lets go of the ball or right after.

A bad snap is considered a center pass and if someone falls on it it is considered a team rushing loss. Even when it happens during a kick.

The kicker was not defenseless and he took steps with the ball. The defender could not see him trying to kick the bad pass by the center Norris saw him trying to run.

The refs were bad. The forgot to move the ball back 5 yards on the illegal touching by Lovett. There were bad calls and no calls that should have been called, but it hurt Mizzou worse than it hurt UK. The bad spot and roughing the kicker were the ones that hurt the most.

Where did you find this? I agree with you but didn't see it in the rules.

That was a borderline call that could have gone either way. I'm not mad at the refs for that one.

The Kentucky first down run that was clearly not was more egregious. Eli didn't even challenge or call time out.

The talent may be there, but there will be a dropoff. They have to get the experience. I am encouraged by how many names I see playing on both the DL and the secondary, though.

I found a pic of that officiating crew working out before this season. They seem alright.
