I don't want this to become another bash BO thread. You have been warned.

I was thinking how different things would be if BO had a better relationship with Kul. If we could have kept DLine Zou intact we win USCe and Kenfricky. Maybe even keep UGA in check. We would be celebrating being in the top 25 instead of arguing about a coaching change.

Besides bad luck, Mizzou was only known for getting to the QB. It was a well earned identity. It sucks that it's gone. Just me thinking while watching my son on the court acting like he is Iverson.

Mizzou’s sack and TFL numbers are pretty similar the last 3 years as they were most of Kul’s time at Mizzou. The exception is the 2 year window with Ray, Golden, Ealy and Sam.

With all but 1 snap at DE in the Kentucky game coming from freshmen or sophomores, DE should be better next season.

We just don’t have the same players. Look at those teams when we first entered the SEC. stacked with NFL talent on the line. We are incredibly young at DE also.

There were also some disadvantages to Kul’s pin your ears back approach, and he’s not really doing that at Bama now.

I don’t know, it’s hard for me to pine for a guy that went scorched earth when he left because he was jealous.

I mean I don't think it's really mattered.

The big losses were Howard and Brady not finishing their careers here.

The DLine is actually holding its own this year.

It's Walters secondary that has been shitastic for the last 3 years.

Feel free to correct my math, but it looks like we are on pace to get about 6 or 7 sacks from our DLine this year. I haven't looked at TFL yet. What year under Kul did we finish with so few tackles from the DL? Not talking about sacks from LB or DB because he didn't coach those positions. I went back almost his last 10 years and didn't see one that bad. In fact, most years we had one player with as many sacks as this entire group has combined.

I'm beginning to think the stats I'm reading are just wrong. Same site that shows us on pace for about 7 sacks for the DL also shows Bama has one player with 8, meaning that one player is on pace to have 12 by himself.

I'm happy with the Dline. For the most part, solid against the run. But they're not putting nearly as much pressure on the QB as we are used to seeing.

This year’s stats are down, but the last 2 years the DL produced similar to most of the years Kul was gone.

This is the first year since the year Sam and Madison led the DL in sacks that I’m not sure there’s a future pro at DE.

Most of those Kul DL didn’t play many first or second year players, the Mizzou has to because there are no upperclassmen. When Pinkel had Mizzou really playing well, if a freshman or sophomore was playing it usually meant that guy had all conference potential.

This defense has way too many players playing because there aren’t those 4th or 5th year players even on the roster.

I hear ya but I do think it's a legitimate concern that those guys the last 2 years who put up some similar seasons did so because they spent their first couple/few years, in fact, learning from Kul. That the guys on the team now weren't as heavily influenced by Kul and could that be the reason the numbers are so down?

As to the age, I agree if we're talking DE.

Bama has better players. Shocking, I know.

There was an article shortly after he got hired about how he had to adjust his philosophy to fit in Saban’s scheme. You can look for it if you want, or don’t. Doesn’t really matter.

Fewer sacks are a reason we are better at the run. We had real problems with the run when everyone just went hells bells after the QB. Auburn comes to mind.

But yeah it would be nice to get more pressure. If errbody played like Beckner probably wouldn't be an issue.

Naw and I don't doubt he's made adjustments and it's obvious that Bama has more talent. My only point is that his DLines are still bringing the heat, which your previous post almost made it sound like they aren't.

It’s not technique, it’s scheme. Brick Haley knows pass rushing technique. He’s got just as many DL in the league as Kul does.

When Kul was here, the DL did not make reads at the line. They had one job, to get up field. It did lead to a lot of disruption, but it also lead to us getting screened to death on several occasions and having problems with read/option based run games. Of course you know all of this.

I was bummed when Kuligowski left too. He was the assistant I hoped would stay more than any of the others.

More pressure would have certainly helped in SC but it is hard to win any game when your Heisman candidate/first round QB goes 3-15 with 2 INTs in the second half.

Kul's DT technique would have been a bad matchup with Kentucky blocking scheme. Like 2010 Nebraska bad.

In two SEC championship games, they allowed 787 yds of rushing offense and 11 rushing TDs. The pass rushers were great but when hardware was on the table, DLine Zou got pushed around.
