I think we'd better start hoping GP has righted the ship.

Because there are going to be no less than 3 big time coaching gigs open at the end of the season.

Texass/Nub/U$C

This will put Mizzou in a precarious position when the Coaching Carousel starts moving in December.

A losing season, and a loss of Pinkel might result in a less than desirable replacement.

No bueno.

But...but...none of those are in the SEC!

These next two weeks are the big test, need to win all OOC and a couple SEC games.

I say we hire David Yost. He's an up-and-coming Wide Receivers Coach under Leach at Washington State. In fact, he was instrumental in helping Washington State defeat USC.

Pay him big bucks...implement the air raid against the SEC East.

There will always be other schools looking for coaches. And it's better than last year, with Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky and Auburn all looking - and that was just the SEC.

We just have to wait for the season to play out. I'm not going to worry about non-SEC schools just yet.

If both Texas and MU offered Kirby Smart. Where do you think he would go?

Forget about the whole SEC thing for a second. These teams will get the pick of the litter. If you think the fact that Mizzou is in the SEC would change anything, you're not looking at the whole picture.

Besides, once the carousel gets moving, there might be even more SEC jobs open. Jobs that are much sexier than Mizzou.

We will at least be 6-6 I'm sure and that's an improvement and I doubt GP will be going anywhere.

Oh, obviously there are jobs sexier than Mizzou out there. There always will be. I don't see Smart to Texas though - I don't think they'd ever consider hiring someone without head coaching experience.

There will always be a job out there that that is a "better" job than Missouri. The question is, is there a coach out there better for our program than Pinkel?

Obviously, the Smart thing was a hypothetical.

However, Texas would be stupid not to give him a call. I'm sure Muschamps phone will be ringing as well. The point being 3 big time programs hiring coaches could create openings at other big time programs.

As far as a coach that is better for our program? Of course there is, but that's for Mike Alden to decide. I'm just a guy with a keyboard. But, the guys that would be better for our program probably won't be there once all the dominos start to fall.

I would take Jim Tressel, Butch Davis, charlie strong, Al Golden, and pat fitzgerald over Pinkel. If I had my choice of the bunch I would want PF. Pinkel is a good coach with limited recruiting abilities. He has the program heading up but he has hit his plateau. We need a coach to take us over the top. Pinkel is not that guy. Maybe Henson proves to be great and in a few years Pinkel retires and Henson takes over. But long term Pinkel is not the answer. He has NEVER won a conference title. He does not get to BCS bowl games. At some point 8-9 win seasons need to stop being celebrated.

He was jobbed. We all know that Orange Bowl bid should have gone to Mizzou. The other stuff is true, but I'll give him a pass on the BCS bowl thing. In my mind he had them in one.

If you look at the overall body of work, he's exactly what the program needed. But, like you you, I think we need someone to push it to that next level. Which is more reason to hope he has the ship righted and moving in the right direction.

I'd much rather him have a nice season this year, improve in recruiting, and have a great season next year, go out on a positive, and make the next coach the one that puts us over the hump, vice the one who has to rebuild.

Agreed. I would be happy with 8-9 wins I really would but I am not content with that. If he does that in back to back years and improves on recruiting which it looks like he is getting a pipeline started in Georgia and Florida, I think it makes the job more desirable, he could retire on a good note and we find someone to put us over the top. In my wildest dreams that man is Fitzgerald, love what he has done recruiting and gameday wise at Northwestern. But doubt he leaves unless it is for an NFL job which is possible.

Just the talk out here on radio and tv.

I could see JF leaving before Sumlin. Vandy got some issues.

I'm not a fan of Pinkel staying around much longer but Pinkel got Mizzou BCS eligible more than once. That statement holds no water. That has more to do with MU fan perception than Pinkel.

Interdasting. I figure they both Sumlin and Franklin will both get a call. Along with others.

This isn't happening in this or any other universe. He may negotiate a raise but we aren't losing Sumlin to another college program. Out of this world 6-7 million to the NFL is the only threat
