I agree sarge. No reason for him to leave. He has a great opportunity to do something big at aTm.

I hate to see coaches that have a good thing going bolt. Which is why I think JF is much more viable as a candidate. You have to understand though, these USC fans out here are very Notre Dameish, in the attitude that they can have whoever they want.

If he leaves after two years, it won't bode well for any coach Mizzou hires and has success with.

USC is considered a top job, but I tend to agree with you - I don't think Sumlin goes there. It's a complete mess right now, and he's got a good thing going. I honestly think they'll end up with someone from the NFL.

I think jack del rio will leave Denver or Franklin will sneak out the back door at vandy, mike Anderson style. Hey at least they have a recruiting class though

And I'm not delusional and think there aren't programs that carry greater prestige but I know that A&M is willing to go to 5 million to not have to wander around in the desert again.

Think about that before you have a quick hook on Pinkel. It's a gamble, we stole a coach from Bama and he sucked, we bought Mike friggin Sherman! And he couldn't translate NFL success to the college game. I would give Pinkel at least 3 years in the Sec

With Pinkel, it's also about his age. Reporters who cover the Mizzou beat have said straignt out they don't expect him to coach past his current contract, which goes through 2017. If this ends up being a good year, they'll work on a transition plan and his retirement. If not, he'll "retire" sooner. That's my guess, anyway.

And you're right about Franklin, FightTigers. The more that comes out about this rape case, it keeps circulating quietly that someone on the staff may have told the kids to get rid of the pics - unnamed witnesses have said it's him. No proof, but it's a terrible case, and he may want distance from it. Vandy may too. Which is completely unfair if his denials are the truth.

I am curious what makes anyone think Alden will make any kind of "big name" hire? I fully expect that our next coach might be in somewhere like the sun belt or MAC conference. I could be wrong, but based on his previous hires I don't see anything to suggest otherwise. Also, our next head coach might already be on the staff.

More than likely you are right. If GP lasts through 2017, I wouldn't be shocked if he kept it in house with Henson, assuming he continues to show he is capable as an OC and is groomed for the position. Otherwise, my guess would probably be a smaller conference HC.

While this was the case with the GP hire, I think the program is at a better place than it was when we hired him. Mizzou should attract interest from better known coaches this time around.

If the offense does well especially in SEC play this season, I could see Henson being named the HC of the future ala Jimbo Fisher at FSU. I like Henson and think he would make a good if not great HC. But with more money coming in from being in the SEC, I think IF the right guy was available Mizzou would pull the trigger on a big name hire. They did try to pull in a big name OC this past offseason with Tedford or Chaney but neither wanted the job. For Mizzou though the best situation is put together 8-10 win seasons, impress, and have Henson take over.

I agree, RC. We have a better program, we're SEC and therefore higher profile, and there is WAY too much money riding on the success of the program. We can't afford to make a bad hire, and if what we've heard about the money available for a coach is true...I think it'll be a good hire. When the time is right.

I agree remote. I just don't know if that's Alden's way.

Pat Fitzgerald would be the best in my opinion. Runs a tight ship. Plays D and will throw a lot of different offensive plays at you.

Pat Fitzgerald

I don't know much about him. What are his SEC ties? That's going to be important in the next coach too. We have to build recruiting momentum, and a coach with SEC ties is pretty much a requirement for that.

I think he's a Northwestern lifer. Great city, his alma mater, low expectations. I don't see why he'd leave.

Pat Fitzgerald is the BEST coach not at a major program. He's on NFL radars though. If he is to leave his home it will be for USC, Texas, or the NFL. But I would cut off my left arm and donate a kidney and part of my liver to have him at Mizzou.

Yeah, and I think if I'm a Northwestern guy born in Chicago that got the chance to be the head coach of my university in Chicago I don't think you'd be able to pry me out with anything short of a gold plated NFL crowbar. He lives in Chicago and the school has low expectations that he can pretty much dedicate his life to exceeding and becoming the best coach in the history of the program. Plus, it's not even like it's a sunbelt team, he's in the Big Ten. frick, if he gets something really going there and gets a shot at a national title they'll have a statue of him up in front of his favorite college bar.

I just don't see him leaving for anything but the NFL and I don't even think that's a given unless he married some Florida chick that can't stand the winters.

I agree. I think it would be hard for him to not listen for Texas and USC if they were to come calling. But I have heard Adad Schefter, Jason La Confora, and Chris Mortenson say he is on the NFL radar after this year.

I just don't know how a dude that recruits based on his experience and love for his alma mater leaves and goes into a hostile environment and tries to make it work without the personal experience.

I liked the look of the Arky St coach, just liked his sideline presence and demeanor. Looks like a sharp guy, his up tempo style would fit with the current Mizzou personnel and brand.

But Pinkel would have to lose all toss-up games to be fired, assuming he loses the likely losses too. He can lose to one of Vandy and TN but not both and keep his job.

As much as it pains you all to hear this.. I can promise Josh Henson is a serious candidate if all goes well and Pinkel retires in 3-5 years.
