I'm still one of the the "us" here though. And my authority is limited to this board. Y'all will find I'm not one to let authority go to my head. Never have been.

Calm down, SEMOnster. You're better than this.

I know this semo. Glad you volunteered in the first place.

Are you talking about when I volunteered during a discussion on here? I was kind of joking then.
I'm not sure who recommended me to Chicken. But I'm happy to help out, and feel honored. We're going to make this place awesome!

That was me. I talk to the Admins at least once per week...

Hermann is nice... but I'm biased to Augusta. The Missouri River used to butt right up next to Augusta, it moved about a mile south about a hundred years ago. IFFF the river remained where it was, then it would be no comparison, Augusta would be so much different today.
Lil fact for you all -- The Augusta Appalachia is the first designated wine district in 'Merica. This is on the Sommelier test, most put down Napa.
For you around STL I'd suggest a new winery, Chandler Hill (Defiance). It's about 20 mins closer than coming to Augusta, and it's really nice, always good live music.

Great pics. Makes me want to move back home. I happen to live in SoCal wine country, but it's not nearly as beautiful, to me, as Missouri wine country.

That is awesome!! Grower? Or on the business side of things? What wines do you specialize in?
Posted on 8/3/13 at 8:48 pm to semotruman
Grower.
Norton is Missouri's speciality.. also called Cynthiana by some wineries. We do that really well. Have a pretty good Merlot at the moment. A really good Port. And I like our Vignoles, good after a hot day.

I love a good Norton, and a Vignole occasionally, even though I'm not much of a sweet wine drinker. I'd love to find something similar to a pinot grigio from Missouri, something a bit dryer than a Vignole.
Posted on 8/3/13 at 9:13 pm to semotruman
Our Villagio is close to the pinot grigio I think.
Vignoles is just what the boss stocks in the fridge, seems like it hits the spot good on hot afternoons. I do much prefer pinot grig to it though. 99% of the time I'm on red though.

Is Chandler carried in Columbia at all
And I used to be a primarily red drinker too, but now I enjoy some whites just as much. Caymus makes a white blend called a Conundrum that I absolutely love.

I'm not sure if Chandler Hill is sold in Columbia, they could be, but I'm not sure. They have good wine, but their property is pretty cool. Really nice building and deck.
I guess that Caymus guy visits here from time to time, pretty cool for a big time wine guy. Stays at a bednbreakfast in Defiance.
