I have confirmed that #Mizzou freshman Christian Guess is in the NCAA transfer portal. That doesn’t mean a transfer is certain but it is definitely possible. Am told we should get an update from Cuonzo Martin after tomorrow’s game against Morehead State.

Assuming Jontay heads to the NBA that will give Mizzou 2 scholarships to use in the spring.

I might be the only person that believes that Jontay will be back next year. The word is that his game had improved a lot from last year and that he had become a low post threat. We know that he could shoot and pass. Coach said that nobody on the team could handle him down low.

I don't understand Guess transferring. He barely made it with his academics, give yourself time to adjust to college. He has enough talent to earn plenty of playing time over the next 3-4 years.

As far as Jontay, if I was a betting man, I would bet on him returning. NYC and LA basketball courts are littered with one time superstars who looked terrible at the NBA combine after missing 1 year of competitive play. If Jontay looked soft at last years combine, how can he look any better after missing an entire year? I would bet he returns, shows significant improvement and gets drafted top 5.

If Jontay comes back we will be a force. Depends on his draft grade though - we've seen that the Porters do not leave money on the table (not that there is anything wrong with that)

He may have been encouraged to transfer. We took a flyer on him. He may not be meeting expectations. He’s not going to a better program is my guess.

I would tend to agree, but never say never

They are saying that being on the transfer portal doesn't mean that he's automatically transferring. Dude was an under-the-radar player that has some game. Dude just needs to hit the books.

He also needs to find a school where he will get a chance to play.

He is clearly behind Geist, Pickett, Pinson, Mark Smith and Watson already. Geist is the only guard with less than 3 years remaining, and Dru Smith will take his minutes the next 2 seasons.

Guess could drop to a mid major and get big minutes right away.

He was a late reach in the recruiting process. It’s normal for them not to work out, but also worth the risk. If Guess puts in the work, both in the classroom and gym, he will be a good player by the time he’s a senior.

Martin's comments on Guess:

Missouri will go the rest of the way without freshman Christian Guess, who PowerMizzou.com reported on Friday had entered his name in the NCAA’s Transfer portal.

“Wonderful young man, but he’s no longer part of the program,” Martin said. “Often times people read into it like it’s more than what it is, but it’s really not. It’s just him finding an opportunity for him to play and to be happy. Great kid, was a great part of our program. We still have a relationship.

“You’d like for all kids to be successful, but this is one, you fight for him to be successful because he has a good heart.”

Guess had played just seven minutes, committing three fouls, this season. He did not commit to Missouri until mid-September and will now look to continue his career elsewhere.
