Lock and JJ did.

JJ was supposed to cut his route off sooner.
And Lock was supposed to run it if there was nothing there.

Skip to the 6 minute mark.

Lol. This frick nugget is unbelievable. First he throws McCann under the bus for his stupidity, now he’s blaming two more players for his stupidity. Right or wrong, good coaches don’t do that.

Fire this prick now, Sterk.

Dude is stubborn. I hope he has to make that same call this week. and it backfires again.

He’s not wrong.

It’s also the coaches responsibility to make sure players know what they are supposed to do on those types of plays.

I also get that many here turned on the coach last year and no matter what he says in that situation you will take issue with it.

The play created a matchup that the coaches wanted, similar to the week before against Memphis.

1:20 - The game came down to just a couple of plays. WTF!?!?!? You had an entire half that you only needed one first down. That's more than a couple of plays.

1:30 - This loss stung more than others, well for the guys, not for me. Screw you. It had better have stung you too.

2:00 - So we lost to #1 and #2 and the other two losses were by a combined 3 points, so who cares. What? Really? Who cares? I get it. You have to be able to move on and prepare for next week. But who cares? You better care. The team better care. I can assure you the fans and Sterk care.

4:18 - At least he admits to not trying to make adjustments going into half time. If our opponents all make adjustments, it only makes sense that we don't.

You already hit his comments on 3rd and 2. Why not throw the players under the bus. No different than throwing the kicker under the bus.

You know that JJ ran the route wrong?
You know that Drew was supposed to run if he didn’t have anything?

Lol.

He never takes specific responsibility. He’ll say generally “and me, I’m the coach.” He never says, “That was a bad decision and it was my decision.”

And I’d like to see if there were a lot of coaches putting their players under the wheels after a loss like Odom does there (48 hours later).

In Odom’s defense after he described the play I immediately realized they called the 4th down play they ran on Memphis and that was bad execution on the players part. Lock is supposed to roll all the way out and get the defense to roll with him Johnson is supposed to stop.

And the only reason I say that is I’m comfortable with that play call over whatever lazy out route lock and Johnson ended up doing

Yes he is. At least insofar as it was the players fault. That play never should have been called in the first place.

So I take it you disagree with Vincent. I mean, if the coach can throw his own players under the bus instead of owning the mistake himself then us fans can certainly criticize the players right?

Odom's standard MO is to throw the players under the bus and then, as an afterthought say "Oh, and the coaches too." and leave it at that.

That play is to give the qb one option. If Johnson isn’t open then you continue to run and get tackled and probably don’t get the 1st down but make them use the TO or burn clock. JJ and lock essentially ran an out route. The differences in those plays may seem small but they’re actually two drastically different plays. And I don’t mind it because it’s not a timing route it’s literally is he open or is he not? An out route is a timing route which is not good in that situation and what you’re trying to achieve

Critiquing a play isn’t throwing players under the bus. If you had played any sport in college you would know that.

Oh dear lord. What part of "Run the damn ball and force them to take their last time out" do you fools not understand?

For sure BO don't.

And what the hell. Neither player understood how to execute the play. In a critical situation. That's coaching.

1 first down. In 30 minutes of play. Would have won the game. In 8 possessions, no one could execute a play designed to move the chains. But sure, it's the players fault. BO had a great game plan, his own players just could not execute it.

Gawddammit, lets find the guy responsible for teaching these guys how to play football, and fire his arse.

I would have run in that situation, but that’s not the only type of play that works in that situation.

And I'm just saying you do NOT give the option of throwing the ball in that situation. You're only asking for trouble. And it found us.
