Drink Talks LT and QB
As was being discussed in another thread, the QB battle continues and they are looking for an answer at LT.
The defense sounds like they are ahead of the offense after two weeks. Its good to hear that Bodford and Henderson are contributing. Tollison being held out really shakes up the oline but the back ups need to be challenged. The way Drink talks about the RB room makes it sound like the running game is there but pass pro is an issue.

It is wise to never be satisfied with pass protection. It will never be perfect but you have to keep trying for it because defenses are going to keep evolving. Keeping the qb off the ground is so important.

I just have a feeling it's going to be Beau. I think Sam will be a great #2 if Beau ever gets pulled or injured however.

Drink did state that in one of their scenarios Beau got his group in the endzone while Sam stalled and settled for a FG. I think RZ TD efficiency will be what ends up separating the two.
Edit: The above statement was made by Drink not saying what oline and skill group was going up against what front 7 lineup. That will certainly factor into the staff's decision.

It sounds like Green is getting LT reps with the 1s. Ideally Richardson or Williams would have taken ownership, but Green can make himself a lot more money if he excels out there at LT. It was also reported that Peagler was at RG with the ones and Dom G.was at LG.
Drink said it's about getting the top 5. Maybe Peagler has impressed enough to try bumping Green. If that's how to get the best 5 OL, give it a shot.

I have mixed feelings on this. I have no doubt that Green can play on the edge but he and Tollison play very well together. Hopefully Guidice and Peagler are up to the task. Outside Zone gets most of the pub but Moore used a lot of GT pull, Split Zone and Duo the last two years. Communication, timing, and footwork doesn't happen overnight and its two weeks until they lineup under the lights.

If it's really all about getting the top 5 OL, and if Peagler is getting a legitimate shot at RG, then he's obviously demonstrated something in camp to open some eyes. There's always an element of motivation via the bench (and maybe Richardson will respond), but let's see how Peagler rolls with the 1s, and how Green handles our DEs in pass pro.

Typically this move weakens two other positions while hopefully strengthening one. I trust Jones but having both presumed LTs underperform in pass pro is pretty concerning.
Peagler certainly has the size at 338 and should know the calls Tollison will make at the line entering year 4.

I'manxious but not concerned, yet. When you have this many big bodies getting paid, you'd better exhaust all options before settling on your top 5. I think that's what we're seeing.
They need to have this shite figured out by September 6th though, fo sho.

With Tollison out of the scrimmage and Dom taking snaps at center, Peagler may have earned the trust to allow Jones to safely move his best olineman out of position.

Yeah, I'll choose to think that Peagler has impressed enough to warrant the move. Now we just need to see Green hold up in pass pro out at LT. If so, all's good in the neighborhood.

Maybe the dline is just that far ahead of the oline.
Gabe at PM had this to say about it.
PM in the AM
So while Peagler was at RG, Wilson was taking snaps at center and Dom at LG.
His comments on the recruiting misses are what is concerning to me.

Yeah, a lot of concerning there. Hope maybe the coaches are just trying to light a fire under a couple of butts. I hope.
Hope messing with Green is not another Connor McGovern situation. Absolute stud at guard. Kind of functional at LT. Made 2 positions worse because the team had NO answer for LT. And probably cost McGovern All Conf and maybe All American honors.

Woof. That 2015 season was a train wreck Boehm sprained his knee in the opener and Hall was terrible at RG.

Tribune Depth Chart
They think its Pribula's job, noting he did a better job getting into the endzone.
They are guessing that Green's move outside isnt permanent. I hope it isn't as well.
Jude James working his way on to the two deep as a receiving option is an interesting development.
I like seeing Gracial taking control of the 3 Tech. He and McClellan should keep Trotter and Newson clean to make plays at or behind the LOS.

I'm excited about our QB situation. Drink seems genuine in his messaging to the media regarding the QBs.
I'm not super worried about the OL at this point because I believe our schedule allows some time to establish chemistry. Like I said earlier, they had better have it figured out by kU, but I think we can all agree that kU ain't SEC quality. We'll need our A game when Carolina comes to town.
The way Drink talks about our LBs (Jacobs especially) we might have to throw out a 4-3 occasionally. Seriously though, this defense has big time potential. Definitely hearing all the right things on that side of the ball so far.

I've listened to as many podcasts by people who have media access or who have guests with media access to the practices as I could find. I think its Pribula's job. His legs could give the line time to get things figured and keep the offense on schedule. It also sounds like he can deliver the ball on and off platform.

Drink seems to think they might have the top 5 OL figured out, or close to it anyway. My feeling on Green kicking out to LT is this:
We are a running team, even more so with Pribula at QB, so Peagler's value at RG is higher than Richardson/Williams value at LT. Green must have shown he can handle 1-on-1 pass pro well enough for the move.

They have three weeks to get the middle of the line on the same page. LT is important but no offense works with the A Gaps getting blown up. You don't have to look any farther back than the 2022 season for evidence of that. Fortunately Peagler has two solid players on either side of him.

One thing I've noticed with these scrimmages is that Drink is putting a lot of trust into his vet players by sitting them out. They need to repay him by being nails 12 days from now.
