New facility, same grind.
There are some obvious position battles from the start in Nance/Scott and Borom/Cook.
I'm going to be keeping an eye on WLB as well. Bolton looks like the guy but Aubrey Miller playing assignment sound football would be hard to keep on the bench. He looks like the best all around athlete at the position since Gooden.

Yup, I’m confused about the coaches insistence on Bolton. He really got out of position several times last year and Miller is the superior athlete by a good measure.
Hopefully he stays engaged. Not easy to do when passed by a younger guy on the depth

Bolton must be a great practice performer.
Dont get me wrong, I love all our guys, but lets get the best 11 out there on D and O .

He almost certainly is and coaches get hung up on that quite a bit. We’ve had better players sitting behind inferior guys before and hopefully if Bolton wins the position (which I expect he will) he performs at a high level

I am all for playing the best LB, not necessarily the best athlete. In his only extended action, Bolton had 8 tackles in three quarters of play vs Bama. Miller has to be assignment sound if he wants to get significant reps. All of the closing speed in the world doesn't matter if you can't make the reads and be in the right spots.

That is what I have been seeing players at Tennessee VOLS! Too many 4 and 5 stars players that are not able to beat Missouri 3 and 4 stars players!

Albert and Bryant got dinged up at practice today. That's less than ideal.
Day 3 write up.

Some coach speak on the #3 RB. Bakare looked solid in limited action last year. All of his touches came in conference play and he averaged 4.8 yds per carry. LR3, Crockett, Josey and Murphy are the only RBs since 2009 that averaged more yds per carry as freshman who got significant touches.

Just curious who the primary back-up at QB is this season?

Looks like Bryant and Albert O are both dressed and in practice today. Might not be bad injuries if they're already on the field.

That's good news. I never was clear on what happened with Eliot. Concussion protocol?

Elliot was "Banged Up" according to Odom.

Miller taking some first team reps. Good to see

I am cautiously optimistic he breaks through. Hargreaves challenged his game knowledge after spring ball:

The ceiling is higher with Miller on the field, IMO. I think he can do a couple of things Bolton cannot in terms of coverage and blitzing the A gap. With out the reads, none of that is relevant.

“I just think there are certain guys who have a little bit more awareness, they have a little bit better understanding when you talk to them about football, their football IQ is at a higher level than some. So those are the guys that have a chance to play, because at least you know they’re going to be in the right spot. And so that’s the thing that will separate a guy from being able to get on the field or not.”

Agreed. He’s the best athlete we have at LB and the dude is built like a brick shithouse. Hopefully the mental side of things is starting to click for him
