Drink is doin' work! From today's post disgrace.
The Tigers rank fifth in the SEC in scoring defense. They’re allowing 25 points per game.
They rank fifth in the SEC in rushing defense. They’re allowing 123.3 rushing yards per game.
They rank first in the SEC in passing defense. They’re allowing 227.1 passing yards per game.
They rank third in the SEC in total defense. They’re allowing an average of 350.4 total yards per game.
Their opponent third-down conversion rate of 33.7 percent is the best in the league. Of the 89 third-down plays the defense has faced so far this season, just 30 have successfully produced a first down.
The Tiger defense held No. 1 Alabama to its season low (38 points). It pitched one of two shutout performances in the league so far this season in last week’s 41-0 stomping of Vanderbilt. No. 5 Texas A&M and No. 11 Georgia are the league’s only two teams that have allowed fewer plays of 10-plus yards than Mizzou’s 98.

BUT ODOM IS THE BEST DC!
But seriously. Drink recruited an absolute baller in Rakestraw. He’s gonna be a tough sumbitch to beat by his third year if he even gets targeted.
Things are looking up.
We just need that explosive athlete or two on both sides on the ball.
A premiere WR and a premiere rusher like we used to have.

I don't think Walter's gets any serious HC consideration for 2021 only because there seems to be 3 to 4 DCs with bigger programs that will probably get a shot before him. Not including Mason and Muschamp. But if they put up similar numbers in 2021, he probably gets a mid major HC gig for 2022.

Walters would need a top 10 national defense ranking to be considered for any head coaching job. As far as defensive coordinator, he could land just about anywhere outside of the top 15 teams in the nation.

Colorado did him a favor by putting him in play last year. Of course that was his alma mater, but still his name came up for a P5 gig. With a good OC in mind, I could see him at Nevada, Colorado State even South Florida in 2022.

He’ll get a job sooner or later, and good for him.

Walters struggled too much vs Bama, UT, LSU and UF for my comfort.
He has greatly benefited from going against USC and Vandy when their teams had completely quit already.
The UK game wasn't too surprising because run D has been OK. Walters has yet to stop a passing offense with a pulse.

Florida and Bama have struggled on defense also. As a matter of fact there's not many good defenses around the country including Ohio St. and even Clemson,

Even the great Nick Saban has conceded that defenses can't stop these offenses. Being consistent and having your guys well coached and disciplined is the goal. And that's not easy as Pellini is finding out at LSU even with all that talent he has to work with.
Walters is doing a hell of a job with young talent, a well developed LB and safety, and has overcome poor DL recruiting. My only issue with him as far as being a HC is recruiting chops.

Bama D struggled early but is not elite once again. Nobody is perfect but our pass D is just not good enough.

Being good enough doesn't require shutting down an offense. It means slowing it down. Our pass D doesn't do that and when our run D fails, teams just run down our throat making pass D look better than it is.

You know, Georgia don't look unbeatable.

Conversely, I hate teams ( Georgia ) that can pressure AND cover.

Georgia is fast but suffers the same fate as anyone else when facing an accurate QB who doesn't turn the ball over, they can be picked apart, Trask proved that.
The question is can we disguise blitz packages and get pressure on their inexperienced QB, and can we stop their stable of running backs.

Can our WRs get open "and" catch it?

Our WRs run good routes against zone and get open. Since Hazelton was dropped from starting, the drop rate dropped. Even though Dove had 2 drops vs Arkansas. We are missing a deep threat, but we are solid when it comes to 8-10 yard gains. And no one has stopped Bannister all year.

Hazelton and Chism have both looked much better lately. I hope 1 or both return for next year

I'd like to see Luper get some shots on a 9 route. You'd like to send Knox, but his hands are just atrocious past 10 yards.
