Head Coach at Ark State for 13 years 1995-2008 resigned in February 08 with a record of 189-187
Head Coach at SEMO for 6 years 2008-2015 fired with a record of 80-107
Video Coordinador at Florida State 2015-18. Worked with Gates for 3 years
Asst Coach at Stetson 2018-19. Left Stetson to be Asst Coach for Gates at Cleveland St
Asst Coach at Cleveland ST for Gates
He is Houston Nutt’s brother
His younger brother Dennis played at TCU and in the NBA for 1 year. He was the Head Coach at Texas State for 6 years.
He has 2 kids that both played D-1 at SEMO and Ole Miss
Sounds like a good hire. Has experience coaching and recruiting D-1 players

I mentioned his name when Gates was hired. I’m neutral on this one. Probably needed a cheaper assistant to balance out CY’s salary.

I think you're right. Looks like after his SEMO gig, he's moved a bit taking whatever jobs he can get. I doubt he was hired for a significant role at Mizzou.

I think you got that right Bass. He is the cheap and safe hire.
From SBNation
quote:
Nutt isn’t going to blow anyone away like Charlton Young might have, but part of that is by design. Young was an expensive hire, and a coach who has proven he can land elite players. Because Dennis Gates had to spend big to get CY on board, that limits his budget a bit on the rest of the bench. Nutt is a smart hire because he’s an experienced coach who has run multiple programs and can help around the edges, without needing him to reel in big time talent. Gates and Young should be able to handle that part. With Nutt you get a coach who won’t cost you a bunch but can be a valuable teaching asset on the bench and help with preparations.
Looked up his time at SEMO and he did a pretty good job. He took over a team with 3 wins and they improved every year until his last.
He went 7-23, 10-22, 15-16, 17-16, and 18-14. His last season they went 13-17 losing 5 games to NCAA teams(Ark, Ole Miss, Murray State x 2, and Belmont). SEMO’s worse loss that year was to Mizzou by 4. SEMO hasn’t had a winning season since he left.
He looks like a good coach maybe he got burned out and needed to move to Florida for 4 to 5 years.

He is a good, but not great coach, that has a ton of experience. Nutt also has a lot of ties in the Missouri, Arkansas, and Memphis area.
With the way those three areas produce talent you can absolutely build a national contender just out of those places.
I'd look at him as a safe "old hand" type of hire. He knows a lot of High School coaches in the area and that can get Gate's foot in the door.
I have to say, I was very skeptical of Gates when he was hired but he's been busting his butt so far.
