Question: You've talked about the struggles in the run game. Is there anything in particular you can do to fix that?

"Yeah I think there's a couple different schemes that we're going to, you know, have going forward that will help us out. And, you know, there's always new wrinkles in the way that you do things from week to week and some of those will hopefully be in our favor, but also you know there's times that we have to win. And we got to be able to move with the double team work to the next level and sometimes there's going to be a guy opened in the hole, we're going to have to make him miss. And I'm not saying, you know, we're going to have to run out there and run for 250. That's not what I'm saying. We are going to be able to extend the drive and every third down can't come down to 3rd and 7, you got to complete a pass to go get it. So, we get into third and short, then we're going to have an opportunity to get more of those conversions that we need to, but you know the run game also opens up the pass game for us to play action moving the pocket. Some of the boot and the naked and some of those things that have been really good for us. If you're not running the ball yet and establish that then they don't have any respect for it. So, we've got to find a way to run."

That he's been out schemed but if he had talent the team would have overcome his shitty coaching.

His entire press conference was pretty much the same after the Vanderbilt loss.

Basically he has no idea what he is doing.

Watch Dan Mullen's press conference after the UGA game if you want to listen to a coach who understands football.

He would probably do himself well to just not answer questions with anything other that "We do what we do"

But Odom beat Mullen last year? How come he was able to do that? Maybe he can do it again?

hell i'll take a stab at it.

our Oline needs to do the blocking scheme correctly and when they miss blocking a guy the RB needs to make him miss the tackle.

I wish he would just call the line out. They have played like shite. The guy that was supposed to anchor the unit never steps forward for interviews and disappears on Saturdays. Simms looks like he spent the off-season reading how awesome PFF and Anthlon said he was.

I do agree that there are some things schematically they should have been doing. The bodies are there to do something other than inside zone

It's a jumble of words around some veiled criticism of the players' execution.

quote:

but also you know there's times that we have to win.

"Our players need to step up and execute the schemes and 'wrinkles' I just mentioned"

quote:

And we got to be able to move with the double team work to the next level and sometimes there's going to be a guy opened in the hole, we're going to have to make him miss.

"The line needs to do a better job on their assignments, and the RB's need to do a better job of making guys miss/picking up YAC"

quote:

We are going to be able to extend the drive and every third down can't come down to 3rd and 7, you got to complete a pass to go get it.

"We're facing too many 3rd and longs because of the previous failures in execution I just mentioned, and this puts pressure on our (disinterested and inaccurate) QB to move the chains."

quote:

you know the run game also opens up the pass game for us to play action moving the pocket.

"We can't pass because teams don't respect our run game"

That's how I would interpret this word-soup of an answer. He's really taking a long-winded and indirect route to call out the line and runningbacks for not doing their job on the field.

I honestly don’t understand what’s wrong with what he said other than people are pissed about this season and don’t like him?

Seems like a very standard coaching answer. We’ve got to execute the run game to setup other things we want to do and get in less 3rd and long. Seems pretty simple.

The OL has sucked for the most part unfortunately, and that’s probably the biggest surprise of the season.
