We backed off him anyways. Didn't really want.

So was Fulford a knee jerk reaction by KA, knowing his own limitations in being able to recruit? I'll admit, I was excited abou his hiring initially. He did get Teki to come but I imagine a lot of pipe dreams of reuniting Huntington Prep at Mizzou were made to him and it was before there was a body of work for Teki to look at with KA.

Really will be interesting to see if the Fulford hire pays off.

I've never liked the idea of hiring a coach to get a player or two players.

It's not long-term plan for success. And while it got us in the front door with a lot of guys, it didn't really do anything for us long-term and left us with no D1 coaching experience other than Fuller on the team.

Now you're in the position of either moving Fulford to recruiting (where he has analogous but not direct experience) or to a regular assistant (where he has no real experience on this level). And we need another assistant.

Fulford has a lot of connections other than those at Huntington.

Phillips connection here is through Fulford. He will continue to get Mizzou in doors, Anderson just has to be able to close.

The problem is Anderson has little product to close with.

We had 9 wins and 5,000 fans per game in an arena that seats 15,000. We will have a similar product next year.

That's the problem with sacrificing a year. It has long-term consequences.

He was our last legimitate shot at a blue chip recruit. Now we'll be pulling a Dominique Bull or Butterfield or three.

I hope you're right. Fulford might be how we got to know of Phillips but I'd hardly say he opened a door to him. His offer list wasn't exactly impressive. I think he took an official to Loyola Marymount just prior to our visit. When we start getting guys like Teki, with legit offers, then I'll start believing he's opening doors for us. I'm hoping he can but being from Missouri...Show Me.

Yea the 9 wins definitely hurts the selling efforts.
Probably would of been better off targeting top150 guys in year 1, then once you have won some over a couple years target to top 15-25 type players. That's what Cal did at Memphis.

I know that's a common belief, there are very few legit bigs in college.
Other than Kentucky & Arizona Mizzou will face only 2-3 teams that have those types of players.

Mizzou can counter that with great play from the guards, which can happen. It's on the players that stay to put in work and live up to their lofty 4 star top 100 status.

UGA - 6'8" Thornton and 6'10" Iduwe
UF - 6'11 Egbunu, 6'10" Walker, 6'10" Rimmer
Scar - 6'11" Chatkevicious
UK - not gonna bother to list them, you know
Ark - 6'10" Kingsley, 6'11" Portis, 6'8" Williams, 6'10" Kapita
A&M - 6'10" Trocha-Morelos, 6'11" Johns, 6'10" Davis, 6'9" Thomas
Tenner - not much
Vandy - 6'10 Jones, 7'0" Kornet
LSU - 7'0" Malone, 7'1" Robinson
Bama - 6'10" Taylor, 6'9" Kessens

That's maybe one or two teams we can come close to matching up to inside in conference.

More just realistic college and NBA are both dominated by guards/wings.
Duke's leading rebounder in the tournament is 6'6" wing. Notre Dame's leading rebounder was 6'4".
Mizzou can improve if they get improved guard play and play better defense.

Both those teams have athletic big men that allow those smaller players to rebound.

Yeah, we were 246th in the nation in rebounding last year. Something tells me next year we'll be worse. Or have we turned into Arky where we don't care about rebounding?

I don't doubt that as far as scoring, we're gonna have to make up for it from outside, but that's not all there is. We'll get killed defending the inside. We'll get killed on the boards, both offensively and defensively. And I'm not talking elite bigs. We just need legit bigs and there are plenty of serviceable bigs in college basketball. Just not at Mizzou.
