This is known as a radical revision of expectations.
Ever had a two-day bout with arse piss? Once your body starts to produce dry farts you feel like you can take on the world. Three days ago, it was just a fart. Now it's cause for celebration.
Hopefully we're entering the conclusion of day two.

“Everybody cares about records,” South Carolina Coach Frank Martin said. “Listen, when you’re playing nothing but freshmen, you’ve got no chance to win. It’s not about the record. It’s how the kids are playing, and they’re playing their tails off at the time of year where a lot of people start throwing in the towel. “That’s called coaching. That’s Kim Anderson’s personality. It’s starting to come through on these kids.”
Translation: I enjoyed kicking y'alls asses at K-Snake, keep Kim around because that will make the arse kickings at SC a lot easier.

Soren Petro asked doug gottlieb on 810 if he thought Kim Anderson was coming back. Doug: A month ago, I would have said yes!
Now I'm not so sure

He was on 810 probably 2 months ago as well. Said he thought the non conference schedule was too difficult for what was left on the roster. But isn't the non conference schedule set a couple of years in advance?

The big noncon games are usually scheduled a few years in advance. This year that included the Tournament in KC, Xavier, & NC State. Arizona may be included in that as well, though I think KA scheduled that series. Didn't include Illinois, but it's also scheduled in advance.
The rest are are scheduled year to year.

Then Gottlieb's criticism was unwarranted since the tougher non conference games were scheduled when the team was much better than what they are now. Does anyone know any of the better non conference games in future years other than Illinois?

Our SOS is 72 this week. Not that difficult.
Arizona and Xavier are good but the others not so much.Heck even UA is ranked #26 in the latest RPI. They have not been the usual Arizona. Illinois, Northwestern, Kansas State, and NC State are not going to the NCAA Tournament. Northwestern is probably the only one of the four that finishes with a winning record. Hell we dropped UMKC and they beat Mississippi State. We didn't.
Schools like Stony Brook, Monmouth, IPFW, and South Dakota State all have a higher RPI than Kansas State.
Our non con is not that tough. We have had a lot tougher non con schedules in the past.
