DGB, Bauer, Maclin etc etc...but I digress. That's football.
On a more relevant note, It looks like Porters dad is going to take a job with Washington

If you are speaking in a broader sense of Missouri kids not being loyal to Mizzou then that goes WAY beyond KA.
I would say this issue is moot on high profile recruits. His last 4 schools is Kentucky, UNC, Duke, and he threw is a nice gesture with SLU. The truth is guys like this are going to a school who has a chance to win a National Title in the 1 year that they plan on playing. That's roughly 4 or 5 schools in the country.
Mizzou needs to keep the above average guys from leaving who could help this team. That won't happen for a long time, Haith basically ignored that Missouri existed.

Men's program or the women's program? I never thought we were going to get him with the things I was hearing any way but this pretty much assures us we won't.

Men's program, Romar at Washington is Porters godfather. Washington is in bad shape right now, as bad as us. They've had their top 3 players transfer out after the season and from what I've read on PM they would only give Porter a raise from the 120k he makes as a women's coach here to 140k. Hopefully he stays and continues to coach his daughters at Mizzou so we at least have a shot at his son.

He made 140k last year.
Romar may have made him a good offer, but it would be a departure from how he normally pays his assistants. None of his assistants were making over $160k or so I believe. The guy who left was making the same as Porter is making now.

Be interesting. 120K in Columbia is better than 140K in Seattle.
He also has 2 daughters that he will get to coach if he stays at Mizzou, both will be freshmen. 1 a RS Freshmen & 1 a true.
If he wants to coach men, better more secure opportunities will present themselves in the next couple years.

There's a rumor he'll reclassify to 2015 still. Idk if we'll have a scholarship open at that point or not.

Jamal Murray 5 star.......sounds like we would be reaching for the Stars again like last fall.

Take it for what it's worth but out of the Top 50 recruits on ESPN only 13 of them have signed with an in state school. Outside of the bluest of blue bloods there isn't a single school that locks down in state talent in basketball. I'm with everyone, we need these guys, but this would be far from KA's biggest failure.

Of the Rivals 150, 39 have signed with in-state schools. 15 haven't signed. So about 30% of the top players have committed to an in-state school (to this point).
3 of the top 150 were Missouri kids - Shamet, Morgan and Whitt.

Yea location isn't as important in basketball. Sure it would be nice to get local kids, but that doesn't happen in general in basketball.

When you stretch it to conference footprint, about 2/3rds of them stayed "in conference."
By SEC team in top 150:
A&M - 3
Ole Miss - 2
Vanderbilt - 2
South Carolina - 2
Georgia - 2
Florida - 2
LSU - 3 and maybe more
Mississippi St. - 1
Kentucky - 3 and climbing
Auburn - 1
Arkansas - 1
Alabama - 0
Tennessee - 0
Mizzou - 0

quote:2 of those 3 committed before KA had 6 months to recruit them. If we hadn't kept Watkins on the payroll for 7 years, allowing Whitt to become part of their family, who knows where he goes. Wasn't Morgan a military kid who moved to MO his junior year? I don't mind holding KA accountable, but this is a silly argument. Mizzou has gotten like 3 Rivals 150 guys from MO in their history and 2 of them were kicked off the team. Trying to imply KA should have met or exceeded that in his first year is not rational. Being rational gets in the way of a good bitch session though. Tyler Cook (if he makes the 150) and Michael Porter should definitely be a test group for the rivals 150 staying in state debate though.

I typed out a long post and then backspaced it.
We will have 3 more top 150s in state next year. None of them are coming here. And we'll hear "Coach just had one year to recruit them." And then it will be 2016 and we'll be crossing our fingers hoping a kid whose dad coaches at Mizzou will commit to Mizzou.

I know 1 will not be here, but we have a pretty good shot at the other 2. The excuse will be "Coach only had 2 years to recruit them" though, not 1.

Are we seriously not getting any of them or is that just a gloom and doom thing?
I'll also agree that it doesn't matter where they come from. KAs first class had 3 top 150 guys and none of them came from MO

We are most hopeful with Cook but I haven't heard anything positive locally and a couple negatives. I think we are well behind with Sneed.
Posted on 4/11/15 at 9:09 pm to the808bass
Well...that sucks. Hopefully we can get some higher rated guys elsewhere if that's the case.

That's simply because your as negative as it gets
