I don't know much about Hill and Henson. Do you think they argue with Pinkel about the QB starter or do you think because of how long they've been together, they just nod and say "yes sir?"

I find it hard to believe that even if Pinkel swears by the "Don James approach to freshmen" the other coaches aren't disagreeing.

I was thinking of something in a similar vein a minute ago.

You'd think they're having daily meetings and weekly film evaluation. I'd love to know what's being said behind closed doors, especially between Henson and Pinkel. I'm sure they talk freely. Why wouldn't they?

I bet Pinkel closer to making a move than most of think.

Throwing Lock out there with 6:30 left was a pretty ballsy move.

The coaches are giving Lock chances to prove he is the man. Yes the offense has moved some, but he hasn't finished off his drives just yet. That is with touchdowns.

If the offense was scoring TDs on his drives, I suspect that Lock would get more opportunities.

I world hope they're speaking freely and honestly about what's going on, about everything to do with the offense. There are issues everywhere, and no more time left to clean them up.

Unless we lose games due to Mauk's play, he's not changing starters though. Lock is good, but very, very green, and Pinkel won't go with him as "the guy" if it works with Mauk, that's not his plan.

I agree about a move coming. I think if Lock moves the offense and throws a TD, he starts against a Kentucky team that the defense can control.

I'd want to go back and look but hasn't Lock had 5 series? 1 out of 5 resulting in a TD which I bet is better than Mauk and that's without being able to get into the rhythm of a game. 1 ended in an INT. 1 got them in FG range before a drink. 1 stalled out in the last series of the first game and 1 moved the ball enough to change field position. When I'm sitting down Might try to put up drive comparisons of the two

The TD came on a broken play. Lock just seems smooth with his movements and in his decision making.
Still don't think the offense is really any better with Lock than Mauk. Stats may tell a different story though.

Some stats that back up what my eyes were seeing.
quote:

@BKSportsTalk: Maty Mauk when throwing to his left: 22/45, 4 TD, 0 INT Maty Mauk when throwing to his right: 16/33, 0 TD, 4 INT

He likes to go left. Also seems better rolling left.

He still picked up the open guy. How many times do you see the broken coverage but the QB doesn't have the field vision? I very much doubt that Hunt was his primary look.

Some numbers on Mauk and Lock.

Number of Series

Mauk: 32
Lock: 6

Scoring Drives

Mauk: 9 (28% of total)
Lock: 3 (50% of total) (should be 4 but we pulled a Baggett)

Drives over 25 yards (Just picked 1/4 of the field to change field position)

Mauk: 14 (44%)
Lock: 4 (67%)

3 and Outs or Worse

Mauk: 14 (44%)
Lock: 2 (33%)

I think if Lock gets a couple more TDs on his drives that the coaches will reward him with more series per game.

The offense is more geared toward his skillset than Mauks skills.

I think if he didn't throw that INT he would have had another series or 2 in the ASU game. Think the INT made the staff a bit skittish.

Not sure if he needs the TD's or not. Possibly. But if he continues moving the offense like he has been for the most part, I think he'll see more series. Particularly if Mauk continues to have so many series that go absolutely no where, literally, if not backwards.

That makes me wonder if he worries about footsteps from his blindside.
