GREEN FOREST, Ark. (AP) - A small Arkansas school district says it'll continue using a tiger in its logo despite a letter alleging that the image violates a University of Missouri trademark.
The Green Forest School Board voted this week to keep using its tiger mascot logo. The school received a letter from Collegiate Licensing Company last month that said Green Forest's logo was "nearly identical" to the University of Missouri's trademarked tiger-head logo. An attorney for the district maintains that the school is not infringing on Missouri's trademark.
James Aronowitz, an attorney for Collegiate Licensing Company, says Missouri doesn't actively look for schools with tiger mascots - but the Green Forest logo was brought to the university's attention. Aronowitz says that trademark owners have to protect their trademarks or risk losing ownership of them.

Yeah, I don't think Mizzou really cares about that school using that logo. If it's brought to Mizzou's attention and they do nothing, however, and it later is deemed to be similar, they may lose the right to their actual logo should say an expansion football team decide to use it.
They make their objection and then let everyone go on about their business.

Looks like Mizzou's logo if he found out someone slept with his wife.

If you look closely at the logo, they made a few minor changes. But they obviously started from the Mizzou logo. It's not expensive to license the tiger. Mizzou does it for dozens of high school teams. I've heard under $100 as long as you get permission.

Wonder if they chose the school from Arkansas because they aren't in Missouri or something.
Because this logo (Republic Mo High School) looks a lot more similar than the other one. It's been around for years and no one has ever said anything.

1) I'm not sure that's their official logo. If you look on the school website, it looks a lot different.
2) They may have licensed its usage if it is.
I stand corrected. It is on the school website.

I was looking at an athletics page of theirs a few weeks back when this broke and their athletic logo looks a lot different.

I would bet they heard from Mizzou and paid their $1 or whatever to use it. Again, I don't think Mizzou's goal is to stop everyone (high schools) from using the logo but they do have to take the steps necessary to protect it so they maintain the rights over it, otherwise LSU could start using it, or Clemson or whoever and trademark it themselves and then we're left having to re-construct a new image again. This way the high schools can continue using it but we could stop LSU or whoever if they ever tried.

All of this. And they have a lot of money invested in that logo.

It's a matter of protecting the trademark.
The Arkansas school should just know what's going on and be normal. They can't legitimately think it's not a copy, pay the $100 or whatever and use the real Mizzou logo and you'll be fine. Why do this shite?

I don't know, I mean it looks like someone took the mizzou logo as a template and then just made some odd changes to it. The Mouth and Chin areas are almost identical.
