Anyone Think DGB is Overrated?

After watching Treadwell play last night (Ole Miss true freshman) I'd say yes. No doubt.
Treadwell played his first college game like a college football veteran. His performance was incredible.

Treadwell is a different type of WR.
Think A.J. Green.
That being said, DGB's HS competition didn't do him any favors last year.
Talk to me in 6 weeks. We'll have a much better idea about him.

Yeah...I suppose.
My comparison was meant to imply freshmen impact rather than position.

It's Week 1.
Treadwell might not be heard from again until Week 5 or someshit.
DGB had his moments last year. He'll be fine. Probably block a punt or too this year as well.

Frankly I think dgb did fine considering we had a swiss chess o line and nobody who could throw the football. We only had one of the very worst passing offenses in all of college football last year. Put him on with chase or blaines teams and its a different story. Tj did more as a soph with Blaine than he did in two seasons combined with James.
Dgb will be fine. And if we can actually put together a solid passing game, he may even be dominant.

Don't know why it's hard for people to get the grasp of that.

When he gets to the NFL.
We'll see how he does this year. Yes the line was a problem. QB was a problem. I'm not convinced that coaching wasn't part of the problem too. We shall see this year. Treadwell, however, looked to be the real deal. Probably already has had a bigger impact in his freshman season than DGB did if we were to compare freshman seasons.

I understand perfectly.
However, I think he made a mistake coming to Mizzou. If we had a Blaine or Chase, his decision would be a no brainer and he'd have been a star last year.
But we don't have a Blaine or Chase. We have a noodle armed running back for QB.
If at one time you were the number 1 high school receiver in the country, why would you choose a college that has a QB that can't throw?
He made a mistake.

I think Mauk dazzled him with his high school passing numbers and he thought Mauk would be throwing to him by now.

You better not say that too loud in your neighborhood. He's a local hero. Plus, you are wrong. The kid's a beast. I just hope we can find a way to get the ball to him.

mizzoukills, have you ever, even once, said anything remotely positive?

No

Watching DGB last year, he just didn't look ready. His HS competition didn't prepare him for SC ball. He's going to be really good this year, and truly great next year. He just needed time. They'll get the ball in his hands as often as they can - provided he keeps his focus and doesn't drop catchable passes.

This is what I'm getting at, people. Last night in the Ole Miss game there was a true freshman playing like a veteran baller...in his first game.
It shouldn't take the number 1 recruit a season or more to learn the plays or to figure out how to not drop balls.
I don't really care if you agree or disagree with me...that's my perception of the kid.
FWIW, I also think equal if not more blame should be aimed at the coaching staff too.

I have spoken to quite a few people here in Springfield who either knew DGB or know about him through family and friends. Before he even committed to Mizzou, these people were indicating that he wasn't the brightest kid in class and that it may take a while for him to learn the playbook.
I truly hope you're right and I'm wrong. I too hope we can get the ball to him. I also hope that he can hold onto it.

I don't think DGB is overrated. I just think he's at the wrong place at the wrong time to shine. Hopefully this year we see a glimmer and next year he explodes.

You see, that's what I'm saying, people!!!
If I were DGB, I would've seriously considered schools with QBs that can throw the ball down field.
What we're hoping for is one great year with DGB. We should've had 3 great years.
I say one year because he'll probably leave early for the NFL. I guess Pinkel don't care.

I don't think anyone could have known how suck arse Franklin would be last year nor how many injuries the OLine would have, nor how poorly our version of the spread would work in the SEC.
At the time he made his decision, you had the recent history of Chase and Gabbert and Franklin having come off a decent year. In his mind he probably thought Franklin would improve over the year before, possibly go pro and then have Mauk slinging it to him all over the field. I can understand the decision at the time. Hindsight is something different.
It is a shame it will only be 1 great year instead of three. But that's not because DGB himself is overrated. It's because he hasn't had the QB to get him the ball, a beat up line and personally I think a coaching staff that didn't make a good enough effort to get him the ball.
