I am impressed with KA's preparation! Excellent results don't usually come without great planning. I certainly give him an A so far. No cool aid drinking needed for me. Of course, I look forward to see how his recipe turns out!

He spent the last 15 years preparing. Of course he is prepared.

so far the report card on KA has got to be an A++..
someone HAD a plan of attack here. this has all been far too well orchestrated to be the work of any one man alone.
we will have to wait to see the on court results and the team might very well have some growing pains, but, I have no doubt that KA will be a much better basketball coach and teacher than Frank Haith.
I strongly suspect that we will see a basketball TEAM out on that court in the years to come that are prepared, have a gameplan, play solid defense and actually RUN some semblance of an offense. All things that were sorely lacking during FH's tenure.
so yeah... pour me a tall glass of that kool aid.

I'm getting there. A little faster. If the on-court results are decent, I'll take a glass.

Seems like the basketball excitement has been trumping FB .
And I am excited to watch our Tigers on the gridiron! It has been awhile since I eager for both seasons to begin!

You nailed it. I cant' decide which I'm more excited for. I might be more excited for the hardwood because this year is not likely to go as well as last year due to life in the SEC on the football side of things.

I've said before though and will continue to say, this year's team will be so very young with so many unproven and new parts that it will likely be a rocky season for a good chunk of it and would be *no matter who the coach is.* Coach K, Calipari, Bob Knight, Roy Boy, I think the result would all be about the same for this bunch. 9 of the 13 players on the roster will be freshmen or sophomores. The two "senior leaders" consist of a one year transfer and a juco who did nothing last year. It's gonna take some time.
Point being I really hope the bulk of the Mizzou fanbase doesn't kneejerk and do a KA cool aid spit take halfway through this season. You all don't have to keep going in for big gulps, but don't toss away the pitcher yet either. It just won't be time to jump off the bandwagon yet. The next two seasons *after* this one are the ones that should rightly have some pretty high expectations placed on them. If Mizzou does well this year, it is gravy and KA will have us way ahead of schedule.

My expectations record-wise for this year is tempered. Lot's of youth. Lot's of new pieces period. I just hope that the style of ball is more watchable, win or lose. A good chunk of our games under Haith, even the wins, were just painful to watch. I do have some expectations as to style of play and effort, but not as to record this year.

Tend to agree. We'll have to see how it plays out but in a lot of ways I think next years team may be diametrically opposed to last years both in the good and bad sense. Between KA's preferred style and value of defense/toughness and having tons of young players all scrapping for minutes and spots in the rotation, I think you'll see an effort and intensity on D and rebounding that will just be insane compared to last year.
Conversely, I think we will see prolonged ugly periods on offense due to young kids who don't know what they're doing yet, lack of proven scorers and much less outside shooting available than last year. All of the guys who CAN become high scoring, draw a double team types are sophomores and freshmen. JW3, Gant, Beidschid, Gill-Caesar, Namon Wright, these guys can be actually a very potent scoring group eventually, but they are still learning. The upperclassmen - Sham, Rosburg, Post & Bello - all are destined to be role players offensively at best.

I would agree, and I don't make a lot if knee jerk reactions to things. I don't have high expectations this season record-wise, but I'm more interested to see if they compete hard and improve throughout the season. I'm pleased by what I've seen thus far.

ATX, or anyone, who are our threats from outside?
Cam?
Wright?
Keep hearing/reading conflicting things about:
Sham
Clark
Bello
Teki
Allen
Gant

Cam definitely seems to be the only one who verifiably comes in with a reputation and collegiate proven ability as "a shooter." He seems to be of the Jabari/Kim English type mold, will hang out on the perimeter and if you feed him in the right spots he will get you points.
To be honest, even though its a darkhorse pick, I think the second best pure outside shooter on this squad may wind up being freshman Tramaine Isabell. Everytime I've heard about him his outside shooting is pointed to as a strength, and that is probably his best shot at getting minutes on this team if he can fill a need as a spot up guy off the bench now and then.
Sham and Wes Clark both seem to be point guards who *can* hit a three for you now and then, but neither is prolific in any way.
Teki gets compared to a baby Earnest Ross, good overall inside and outside game but not super high level in any one particular phase.
Namon Wright has a rep as a streaky scorer particularly from the outside, a guy who when he gets hot and jumper is falling can explode on you and change a game, but its feast or famine.
Bello has never been able to shoot for sh**. I don't expect that to change.
Allen will be an energy guy who I don't think will be looked to to take many shots period early on, he'll be asked to come in and D up. I was surprised by his outside shot in highlights so he can hit now and then but he won't be a major threat from out there.
I hear reports from practice that Gant can shoot it pretty well really. But, we heard reports like that about JW3 last year before the season started too. And as with JW3, I don't think we will actually see Gant taking many perimeter jumpers at all this year in game action. Hope to be wrong and pleasantly surprised.

Thanks. Interesting thoughts on Isabel. Now that you say that, I recall reading that somewhere myself and that his coach was actually trying to get him to shoot more but he had a lot of that PG mentality in him getting others involved.
My take is that Gant has a more legitimate shot from the perimeter. With him, I have read and his stats show he can shoot at a decent clip out to the 3 point. All I remember with JW3 was word that he could face up and shoot, which I took to mean out to the mid range area (thought he couldn't really do that last year either). That doesn't make Gant an outside "threat" but I'd bet he has more of a perimeter game than JW3.
I'm probably in the minority that thinks Clark has a decent shot and think you'll see an improvement in his shooting this year.

There is absolutely no doubt that we are in so much of a better place than we were just 6 months ago or so.
From a team that lost to Southern Miss in the NIT. Had 1 player in the doghouse and evicted. 2 players fighting each other, 1 kicked off. 2 players leaving early. A coach leaving out of the blue. I'm sure there's more I'm not remembering.
To now...new coach in KA. Retains Fuller, gets Fulford. Keeps the commits committed. Lands 4 additional players, 1 transfer, Allen, Isabel and Teki. Recruiting in state is finally being paid attention to. Recruiting nationally seems on the up tick. A solid OOC schedule has come together.
Yepp. That needle has been moved for me that wasn't moved on the initial hire. Give KA all kinds of credit for that.
