What’s the goal? Like I said 3.5M would make him the 9th highest paid coach in the SEC...for now anyway. So he’d just have to be the 9th best team in the SEC to justify that salary? He’s comfortably better than that now despite being the lowest paid coach. We’ve been getting a great bargain using that metric.

I know it sounds like a lot, but it’s really not.

What do you guys think we’d need to pay (to get someone you’d want) if we let him walk or fired him? Maybe that’s a better exercise here.

He’s not comfortably better than ninth by any metric you didn’t make up in your head.

Depends on what type of hire we made. We’d pay $3+M for a successful up and comer. A G5 coach moving up.

We’d pay a little more than that for a top OC or DC from a blue blood.

We’d pay $5M+ for a successful P5 coach.

If we hired a coordinator from a second tier school, we’d probably pay $2.5M.

Huh?

Sure he is. Look at every objective ranking you can find. S&P+, FPI, Vegas oddsmakers. Not only better but comfortably better. We’ll be higher than 9th in the bowl pecking order. You won’t find any power ranking from media sources that has us as low as 9th in the league. You’ll find several that have us in the top 6. We are tied for the 4th best record in the conference.

Comfortably better by any measure.

That’s one year. He’s been our coach three years.

If he is at 50 in S&P next year, does he give money back?

We’re actually tied for 6th best record WL in the SEC.

And 7th best conference record.

Well, I was referring to last year but if you want to use all 3 then have we ever been the worst team in the SEC? That’s where his pay has been.

You’re talking in circles now. I was responding to the original point that somehow raising his pay to a reasonable level would bring forth some lofty expectations. I’m not sure why that would be the case. Expectations are great and all but I’m not sure why giving a coach a slightly below average contract is going to be justification for them.

I think the obvious disconnect here is people thinking 3.5M is more significant than what it actually is.

I agree with your post above on what it would take to replace him. Think it was spot on. That should provide some context on dollar figures.

Maybe Odom won’t even ask for that much and will be willing to give us a discount, but I think my suggestion is fair...maybe even skewed towards Mizzou a bit

That’s not how it works and it’s a little embarrassing.

If five teams are 12-0 and you’re 11-1, you’re not second.

Yes. We have. We were by far the worst SEC team in 2016. In fact, if you average his three years (6th, 7th and 14th), it comes out to 9th.

A $1M raise is very significant. A 40% raise is significant. If he didn’t wanna be coach for $2.3M, he shouldn’t have signed the contract. If he wants $3.5M, it’s easy. Win 6 or so games each of the next two years.

I didn’t say standings. I said record. We have the 4th best record in the SEC along with 3 other teams.

Even if you want to go by standings, then 6th is comfortably better than 9th and SIGNIFICANTLY better than 14th (what he’s actually being paid)

So we were getting a bargain, and making him the 9th highest paid coach in the league is reasonable.

Glad you agree

We won’t finish the year Unranked? Not sure how if your a fan you think that is likely? If we win our bowl game we will be ranked. We’d be favored against about every team in the country right now besides perhaps 10-12 teams.

Not really sure how interested y’all are in an outside perspective, so feel free to criticize and correct anything I say wrong. I’m not an expert on the program and financial situation by any means. That being said, I think Odom has earned a raise. IMO, he should be getting a middle of the league salary. Not sure what that is numbers wise, maybe 3.5 something like that.

Odom’s teams play hard. They looked pretty physical each time I saw them. Once in Tuscaloosa and once in Columbia. I’m sure there could be a slight drop off next year, but I still see y’all getting at least 7 wins, just because I believe a BO team isn’t going to roll over if there is adversity.

As far as attendance and where the revenue will come from, I have said before Odom could do a better job promoting his program. Then again he offered free tickets to the last game and it seemed like they were having trouble getting rid of them. So I’m not sure how much promoting the program will really do.

Anyways, that’s my take. I hope Odom doesn’t jump ship, I don’t think he will unless he feels jilted towards MU, and I don’t see that happening

I’m good with a slight raise and some incentives. But the reality is he’s only beaten one team with a pulse in 3 years. And it took him 2.5 years to finally beat one while choking away several games.

Here’s an exercise. Name three coaches making over $3.3M that’s he’s definitely better than.

I’ll give you the first two:
1) Chad Morris
2) Lovie S

Will Muschamp and Ole Miss head coach(I do not know his name)!

We finished 5th out of 7 in the East. We finished 5th out of 7 in the East.
We will finish the year unranked (likely).
Our attendance revenue is probably ranked around 12th in the SEC.
Our recruiting rankings are 40ish in the country and 12th or so in the SEC.

We are likely to take a small step backwards next year.

Wrong! Missouri is 4th in the East. South Carolina have lost 5 games already and are rank below Missouri! The division is based on win and lost in division and total record. So Missouri is ranked higher than South Carolina. Missouri shall do about the same or better. next year. Missouri shall win the bowl game and then shall be ranked at the end of the year.

Only 2 things will improve attendance. Winning consistently and time. Many of the fans that left because of 2015 may never return. So Mizzou just needs to keep winning to get new fans.

Also Odom was still unproven. This year he is showing that he is getting the job done and is getting better each year. Next year shall be the same or better because he will have a different quarterback. Odom will get the quarterback to play good enough to get 8 or more wins next year.
