Bud was signed to be a 6th or 7th inning guy and he would be really good at that spot.
The front office is at fault for this season.
Tonight the Cardinals should have scored at least 2 and maybe 3 runs. Yadi not tagging up on the deep fly was terrible. He would have been at 3rd with one out. Pham making the 1st out of the inning at 3rd was terrible base running as well.
Tonight was not just the bullpen, but the bad base running as well.
How a pitcher pitches with a 1 run lead is much different than how he pitches with a 2 or 3 run lead.

Teams sucks arse and they need to SELL SELL SELL! While current players, the small few, are riding hot.
Pathetic to lose a game a rook has 7 hitless innings against and 1-hit thru 8.
Also. Get rid of Norris. Old MM club cancer.

Norris is a old school type of player. How he treats younger players like how younger players have been treated for the past 100 plus years. Millennials are not used to that type of treatment.
He came to St. Louis thrown into a spot where he has not played in his 10 year career. He is a 5 pitch pitcher perfect for middle inning relief and maybe even a spot starter.
I am not confident is in his closing ability and know there is a good chance he is going to blow the save every time he goes out.
Hicks is the only other choice the Cardinals have and he is not ready to pitch in back to back days and be effective. I would rather see Weaver move to the bullpen now that he looks like he is struggling to get through more than 3 innings.

Pham and Martinez are the only 2 offensive players that will look attractive to teams that the Cardinals will part with.
With the injuries to starters and the ineffective bullpen trading pitching is going to be a no go.

I’d sell high on Carpenter to be honest. This team isn’t prepared, coached, or stacked with talent to compete in any real way during the last years of his effectiveness.
I’m not necessarily saying they need to tank but Mos pussyfooting and the bandaid effect of patching holes in a ship riddled with bullet holes isn’t working. And that shows in the worsening record year over year along with not making rhe playoffs anymore.
And I don’t care about razzing rooks. Some people respond to it others don’t. I don’t care how old the process is. Maybe find a GD adult way to inspire this lackassluster team.

I've felt this for two years.
He's an ideal #3 hitter, but can only hit when batting lead-off which destroys line-up flow because he's a bad baserunner with no speed. The only thing dumber than Carpenter at lead-off is doubling up on it by batting Molina 2nd. Two glaciers at the top of the line-up on a team that needs to manufacture runs.
And this is Mo's team. Two years ago he wanted players who could handle multiple positions defensively. The problem is they lack proficency at all of them. They're a team of DHs playing in the National League.
The Cardinal Way is only a slogan these days.

Carp is under team control for 2 more years. He will be 35 at the beginning of the 2021 season. He will be a key part of the over the next 2 to 3 years.
Young pitching over the next 4 to 6 years will help this team be competitive for a playoff spot almost every year.
Carp and Yadi are not the offensive cornerstone players the Cardinals need, but they are great leaders in the clubhouse. Tyler O’Neill, Paul DeJong, and Bader will be really good players surrounding a conrnerstone player.
The Cardinals need a big power bat signing in the offseason.
The relief pitching has been the worst part of the season. Trading Pham, Martinez, or even Ozuna by the deadline could really help the team in the future. With the young pitching and young offensive players the future is bright if they can get a bat in the middle of the order.
The Cardinals under achieved in both 2006 and 2011 and still won the World Series. The reason this was possible was because Pujols was a cornerstone player in 2006 surrounded by Edmonds and Rolen good offensive players. In 2011 Pujols had Berkman, Holliday, and David Freese.
In the the 2011 season the Cardinals ended the season with only 2 relievers that they started the season with, traded Rasmus, and signed Furcal. They made moves in the middle and at the end of the season. They over achieved and won the series. Even with one of the worst bullpens I have ever seen. That bullpen was worse than the one they have this year.
The way to win now is to have that cornerstone offensive player, good to average starters, and a good bullpen.

This team will not seriously compete in the prime years Carp has left. The Braves are young and coming strong.
The AL just outclasses the NL in a bad way.
Not a single player on this team would likely have a spot on the Yanks, Astros, or Indians.
Stop the bandaids. It doesn’t have to be a total overhaul but it’s silly holding on to players like Carp when the return on such players could help the beat future.

I agree. There just comes a time when it's time to retool. It will take a few years, but Cardinal fans are smart enough to understand, as long as there is a clear direction and plan. We just have to bite the bullet, accept the razzing from Cub fan and be ready to contend in 2022.

What makes you guys think Mo will fix this by 2022?
Let's look at their latest signings
Cecil
Howland
Fowler
Leake
They're garbage scroungers and always have been. If Pujols doesn't miraculously happen we're screwed.
They refuse to pay market price for hitters.

Mo was willing to pay Stanton.
That shows he is willing to pay a player at least $35 million.
Getting a player to sign will be the problem. Manny Machado is the player in the offseason that he could sign for around $35 million or a little more.
He’s not going to sign with the Cardinals, but trying to trade for Stanton showed they are willing to pay.
Like in 2011 trading Rasmus a young player that looked to have a bright future the Cardinals could make a big trade bringing in relievers for next year. That could attract a good offensive free agent signing in the offseason. Most fans didn’t understand the trading of Rasmus at the time. Trading away any or all Pham, Martinez, Fowler(wish), Wong, or a young pitcher could help the team this year and the next few years.
I would rather have Hicks and Reyes in the bullpen.

Mo is the master of coming in 2nd when it comes to those top line players.

It's almost like he knows the exact amount to make him look competitive but never actually sign the player.

Just read on yahoo news that Girardi wants the Cardinals job.
It said Girardi and Mo are close friends. If the reporting is true it looks like we have a new manager.

I'd be cool with Joe.
Sounds like the Cards are unloading dead weight before the trade deadline.
Holland and Tui are both gone.

The Elledge RP we traded Tui for was ranked 18th top prospect in the Mariners oraganization before the season. He is in High A ball
I didn’t see him ranked in the top 30 after the draft. (21st on Cardinals)
I saw Lyons was designated for assignment as well. This will open up 3 spots on the 40 man roster.

Blow it up
Trade or release Gyrko, Norris, Fowler(haha), Wong, J. Martinez, and Cecil.
Bullpen is already better.

Yes, rather have Munoz at 3rd.

I wouldn't mind keeping him, unless you can get a good return(which is likely right now)

Fowler
Who the frick would take him, might as well keep him. especially for that 1% chance we make the playoffs.

Keep, no one else in the system is ready, and hes been better.

Trade, but another person who no one would want.
