Those teams that you list compete and I'd be happy with that. How many have won a natty? I'd be curious to know the last team to win a natty that didn't have a top 10 class in the 4-5 years before winning it

You have been a second half of good defensive adjustments away from seeing them play in the NC game twice in the last 8 seasons.

You're right. That's why I would like to see someone break through.
Posted on 7/28/16 at 1:30 pm to surgicalvenom
If one team breaks through it won't make up for all the teams that won NC with top 10-20 ranked recruits year in and year out.

And like I said, I'll take and enjoy that. Numbers still are what they are until someone breaks through as surgical says. Hopefully it is mizzou

If you guys are waiting on a national championship....
Posted on 7/29/16 at 7:54 am to JesusQuintana
I don't know if waiting is the right word but yes, my hope is that some day before I die mizzou will win a national championship. Doesn't mean they will but that should be the aspiration and expectation that they are working towards. It is possible to be realistic while also rejecting mediocrity as the only option. Realistically....there is no way Mizzou wins it all this year. But yes, at the same time, the expectation and hope can be that BO develops and grows the program to the point it is hoisting the trophy at years end before his tenure is over.

I'm with ya. I hope I see one before we die, but a lot needs to change before that can happen.
We don't have the infrastructure, money, history, fan support etc to do it. There is a reason the same handful of programs win every year. CFB is the most uneven playing field in all of sports.
You all know I'm all in on wiBO. Love the dude and think he is a NC quality coach. Hopefully we can put some NC quality pieces around him and give him what he needs to get it done.
Some schools have almost broken the barrier. Hell, we came fairly close twice in the past 10 years. Hopefully, we will be the ones to do it.

I hear ya. But I also think it's reachable. In those years where we have one blockbuster like Richardson or DGB or Gabbert or TBJ we just need to find a way to make it 2 of those kind of players instead of 1. I don't think we need 15 of them.

Over the last 10 year here is the #10 ranked recruiting class by average star rating and MU's average star rating and the delta:
2006 OU 3.54 MU 2.52 -1.02
2007 Michigan 3.4 MU 2.89 -0.51
2008 UCLA 3.52 MU 2.88 -0.64
2009 Miami 3.53 MU 2.8 -0.73
2010 ND 3.39 MU 3.3 -0.09
2011 Cal 3.45 MU 3.06 -0.39
2012 OU 3.48 MU 3.11 -0.37
2013 FSU 3.57 MU 2.95 -0.62
2014 Auburn 3.56 MU 2.79 -0.77
2015 LSU 3.44 MU 3.2 -0.24
2016 Texas 3.54 MU 2.91 -0.63
Since 2006 MU has averaged being .54 stars from having a top 10 class. The gap isn't that far.

I agree. Like I said. It doesn't take 15 TBJ's. If we can just land 2 of those guys. And no, being top 10 doesn't guarantee anything but not having a couple top 10 classes almost guarantees not winning a championship.

Just landing two arbitrary guys per class does nothing. If you mean two elite offensive linemen, I'll buy that. And by elite I mean a 6.0 rated player. There isn't anyone at on this board or at Rivals that could give you a straight answer on the difference between a 5.7 and a 5.8 rated player.

I don't disagree with anything you're saying. I am talking generally elite level. I'm not nitpicking 4.7 vs 4.8. And whatever position group. OL is one of the more important imo

There is a major difference in the players rating between Mizzou(45 ranking 2017) and even Florida(20 ranking 2017) in their recruiting ranking for 2017. Look at the major difference in star rating of the commits.
Florida #20

Mizzou #45

Florida, Georgia, Vols, Ole Mis and LSU always finish higher than Mizzou in recruiting rankings, but their coaching has always been an issue in my opinion. Mizzou has had some luck recruiting players that ascend as time goes on and they(some) become better players in their latter years. When Mizzou has a team(starters) of jrs and seniors they tend to be better.

Florida allowed more TFLs per game in conference play than MU did and currently have one olinemen in their class. This has been an issue in Gainesville since Meyer left. If they don't get that fixed, they are going to have a hard time turning the corner.

Bledsoe was rated as a 3* by Rivals.
MU's class currently sits with a 3.0 star average recruit ranking.
2 teams are tied at #10 with 3.56.

Just offered Rey Estes the QB from East STL.
Smart offer on several levels here. Obviously the whole pipeline thing. He's a very good athlete and if he doesn't stick at QB he could possibly help elsewhere. Staff was too late to the party to grab a highly rated QB for this class, and he's said to be really tight with Jeff Thomas.

I think its a good offer. His arm isn't elite but it is good enough when you have to defend him taking off as well. Getting him to flip isn't a given but I like to hear that Simms is selling the program. I hope he is in Thomas's ear as well.

I could be wrong but I don't think he's a qb at all. Just a matter of putting a great athlete at qb. I think Taylor played some qb for ESL.
Good offer for a good athlete.
