Since it's gotten quiet since last week's signings I was wondering what people's thoughts on Terry Beckner Jr. are.
FSU has announced he will take an official there and also one planned for Oregon in the fall as well as Mizzou. Oregon is putting together one helluva class and FSU has a certain trophy to show off to recruits.
I'm starting to worry a bit but I think he still wants to play close to home.
Anyone heard anything?

TBJ will not say much. He likes Mizzou and has been impressed. Close with Mizzou commit Nate Strong. Apparently was close to committing to Mizzou in the spring but held off. No one has a sense where he is leaning but he could be a NSD decision

Haven't heard a word.
Obviously, any time those kind of schools are involved, I hold my breath. My irrational homerism now: I don't get the love affair with Oregon. They weren't relevant before what? 2000's? They did win the Pac whatever but beyond that what have they won? They did make it to the national championship game once and lost. Mizzou has twice come down to conference championship games which had they won would have been playing for national championships. Having said that, there is no doubt they are good, but why they have the perception of being world beaters whereas a Missouri team that has been almost as good over that same period of time doesn't even get ranked is beyond me. Rant on Oregon over.
As for Beckner, despite holding my breath with teams like that, I have always heard comments out of his camp of wanting to play in the SEC. Teams like LSU, Bama and even OM with their history of recruiting make me more nervous. Staying somewhat close to home certainly was something his camp discussed and hopefully they meant it. That would take out the FSU and Oregon's of the world.

He doesn't talk much but his coach has spoken on his behalf in the past. I have always heard he will be a NSD decision. Nothing to make me think otherwise. I also have heard nothing to say that Missouri has fallen out of the top spot to date.

I have a bad feeling about it. I want to be optimistic but we just can't compete with FSU and Oregon on the recruiting trail, I have a hard time believing that they won't be able to reel him in. We just can't land studs like that and it sucks. Literally everyone in the SEC is recruiting blue chippers including shitty Kentucky.

Didn't work out because he's a dipshit.
Beckner will be a Tiger.

I hate to ask this, but has anyone heard anything about academics for Beckner and Strong? Can that be a larger problem than FSU and Oregon?

Haven't heard on Strong. I read that Beckner is solid, though I think that might have been a poster saying that, so take it for what it is.

This is how Mizzou is recruiting Beckner:
Beckner: I'm taking an Oregon visit
Mizzou: Sheldon Richardson...NFL
Beckner: I'm taking a FSU visit
Mizzou: Aldon Smith...NFL!
Beckner: I'm still deciding
Mizzou: Ziggy Hood, Kony Ealy, N Freakin', FL!!!

I would hate to lose either one of those two to grades or injury, so can we have them sit out their senior season to study?

almost makes sense doesn't it? if you're that big time a recruit, just don't risk it till you get to college, much like guys going pro early to minimize the final college year risk.

It's going to happen, and that kid will catch "Hell" for doing it. But I'm willing to bet, it will be a topic of debate in the next 2 years.

There have been rumblings on PM about Strong being in a similar situation as Taylor. Hopefully he can pull a decent ACT and still get in, but there's a reason we've got 3 RB's committed and just took 2 last year.

Yeah, the positions don't concern me. What concerns me is having other ESL players here so it feels like home for Beckner. Strong has plenty of time to retake that test if needed. Hopefully he's taking it early and often.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking too but wasn't sure.
