Noted. I have given every opportunity for some to change that. It is now bringing it down for everyone, which is enough. I'd like to keep all Mizzou posters around but not if it's going to drive others away. At this point, everyone has had more than their fair warning. If you are in doubt of whether this is you, feel free to email me at mizzourant@gmail.com and I'll let you know.
If you have concerns about any particular poster, email me at that address. If you want to be overly negative and want to get it off your chest, email me at that address. If there is a particular post that needs my attention, flag it.

Saw that. Saw we moved up to 33 with his getting rated.

I can give plenty of examples I've seen of this over the years. Lawrence Lee last year, for example. The Mizzou recruiting trolls on the PD went nutzo when he committed, and Rivals had him as a 5-10 155 2* with 4.7 speed and no national rating. I pointed out that Lee was a 4* on espn, and got scolded for being a GP fanboy. About a day later Rivals updated him to 5-11 175 with 4.4 speed, a third star and a national position ranking. And I'm quite sure Rivals went through a boatload of tape and thoroughly evaluated the kid before doing so-NOT.
Then there is the saga of Sheldon Richardson's wandering star rating. The start of his senior year cycle, he was a 5*. Then when it looked like he was a heavy MU lean he got demoted a star, and stayed there the whole time he was committed to us. Then he started flirting with Miami, and presto! He got his 5th star back! And then he signed with MU and his final star rating was 4*. Then he went to juco as a 4*, 'decommitted' and committed to USC, and wonder of wonders, he got his 5* rating back.
Then he signed with us. Final star rating-4*.
I nearly went to work for Scout.com years ago. In the process of my 'interviewing' I got a bit of a glimpse behind the curtain. Before that I was like most-just accepted the services did a thorough job scouting and evaluating, and that it was neutral. Since that time I've watched closely how they do their business-all of them. The main aim is selling subscriptions, because it's a business and hype sells, and the hype goes where it sells the best. Anyone who puts too much stock in those ratings and ignores these things is fooling themselves. They're useful and even worthwhile, if you know how to sift them for spin and how thorough they probably looked at any kid. The top end, obvious kids who attend camps are evaluated much better than those who don't, or who maybe did and did not impress on that particular day. They follow up after that based on who is recruiting them-because that's where the money is.

I think we can all agree (minus Jagd Tiger) that Gary Pinkel has taken the Mizzou football program to a higher pinnacle than it had been since the end of Dan Devine's tenure in 1970.
Here's a list of the coaches Mizzou has had since Dan Devine's final season. Each coach's records are listed in order of best to worst:
From 1984-1997, Mizzou football suffered 13 consecutive losing seasons, spanning the tenures of 4 coaches.
From 1971-2000 (the time between the Devine era and the Pinkel era), Mizzou football went 144-189-7 (pct=.424).
2001 was the first year of the Pinkel era. Here are Pinkel's records, listed from best to worst.
Gary Pinkel 2001-PRES: 12-2, 12-2, 11-3, 10-3, 10-4, 8-5, 8-5, 8-5, 8-5, 7-5, 5-6, 5-7, 5-7, 4-7
From 2005-2011, the Mizzou football program under Gary Pinkel finished with winning records for 7 consecutive seasons.
In Gary Pinkel's tenure as Mizzou football coach, he has more winning seasons (10) than the previous 4 coaches, Larry Smith, Bob Stull, Woody Widenhofer, and Warren Powers, combined (8).
In the 14 seasons prior to the Pinkel era, Mizzou football went 56-97-4 (pct=.357). In Gary Pinkel's 14 years, the Mizzou football program has gone 113–66 (pct=.631).
Gary Pinkel built the Mizzou football program from a laughingstock to a back-to-back SEC Championship contender in 14 years. In 14 years, Gary Pinkel changed the Mizzou football program from one that I wouldn't even recommend to in-state recruits to one that scored the commitments from the top recruit in each of the states of Kansas (AJ Harris), Missouri (Drew Lock), and Illinois (TBJ).
All that said, I expect Mizzou to keep improving. It took 14 years for Pinkel to turn the program around. I wouldn't be shocked if it took another 14 years to bring Mizzou's average class ranking up to the top 15. Building a program takes time. Pinkel has put in the first 14 years. I expect he's got a few more years, and then it's up to the next guy to exceed what Pinkel did. It's up to the University to build facilities that rival those of Oregon, Alabama, Ohio State, etc.
Mizzou is on the right track.

Just look at the last 3 guys we got. I'm sure they will all get the standard 3* Mizzou ranking, but they were all overlooked for one reason or another.
Johnson-He's small, tiny actually. That's a legitimate knock on him, but consider that in the college game guys his size can be very productive. We just graduated a great one in Murphy and he might even get a chance in the NFL. Super quick/fast. Excellent returner. His highlight film he scores a TD on EVERY SINGLE PLAY aside from the last one which was a 50 yard KO return.
Smith- Played football on and off. Focused mainly on basketball. Attended no camps, played AAU hoops instead of training for football. Didn't even play his SO year. Here you have a guy who is 6'7" and runs a 4.5 without the benefit of much football training. Had over 1000 yards and 13 TD for his team.
Agbasimere- Only been stateside for 2 years and has only played 18 football games. Obviously very raw, and plays for a small private school that only had a FB program for 3 years I believe. However, if you can't see this guy jump out of your screen on the tape then I can't help you. 220+lbs, sub 4.5 speed, 40" vertical, won districts in both the high jump and triple jump. I don't know how many athletes there are like this in this class, but I'm guessing not many. If he had played for Manatee and played all 4 years he'd be a high 4/5 star type player. Thankfully for us, he didn't because he'd be headed to Florida St.
Fall in love with the star system all you want, but we get our guys. We just have to work harder to do it. Evals and finding guys are part of the recruiting process as well. Not many do that better than GP.

We still in the running for Tyler Howell?

It's been awfully mum on him best I can tell. I know he was an early Arkansas lean but that was before his visit to Mizzou. Haven't heard much on him ever since Cuellar committed. I'd like him but my guess is with 3 OL and 1 of them already being a JUCO, they're probably not focusing on him. I am wrong more than I'm right though.

As we reported on LINK , multiple sources have said that Helias (Mo.) HC Phil Pitts is joining the Missouri football staff.
I brought up last night that you never know about Hentges but this makes it more interesting. I can't think that a kid will blindly follow his HS coach, but let's hope he does.

Most UT fans are saying they have no room for Sapp. We probably have a pretty good chance here.

I think the way Mizzou does their recruiting is the way it should be done. Actually evaluating these kids as a staff, a staff that has worked together long enough to have a great feel for what a top recruit really is.
What I can't understand is why a star-gazer type fan has a picture of an unranked high school player (Max Copeland) in his signature? You'd think he would get a pic of DGB to put on there, since he was a 5 star and all.

I love the Zou, but when we make it to a conference championship against those teams(Oklahoma, Auburn and Bama) with highly touted classes we get our butts kicked. Tell Bama, Fla. St. and Ohio St. to stop star gazing.

1. We didn't get our butts kicked by Auburn, and we didn't lose that game because if talent.
2. To win a conference championship, we MAY need to "recruit better" or maybe not.

Justin Smith is now a 5.5 3* on Rivals.

so they gave him the minimum 3 star ranking, how generous.
