it is just time in the cycle to beef up on OL recruits. We really should probably take at least 4 every year, anyway.
Posted on 6/26/13 at 2:33 pm to TrueSon2014
I dont take it as bashing. That's why I asked. We have averaged taking just under 4 each year and my thoughts were much the same. With the move to the SEC, do you see them bumping the number of OLinemen to 6 or 7?

Lost another instate kid. Looks like Bonner to ND. Good luck to him.

yessir, maybe we need more of the big guys in the trenches
Idk if it was already mentioned but Dominque Booth is reconsidering us

Im uncertain ab this extra emphasis being put on developing pipelines in SEC country...
My thinking is this, MO is turning the corner in HS football. Better quality and quantity players are coming out of our state every year. I have a feeling MO recruitment has taken a backseat to the efforts in these new recruiting areas in the south.
So we're taking the 2 star kid from Jorts County, FLA in hopes of landing the 3-4 star kid from the area in a couple years. I get it. But I wish we just hammered the shite out of MO, that one kid that committed to Ole Miss said Mizzou didn't really pursue him that hard.
More of my thinking, so we lock down MO and start getting wins (we stop giving away free rides to charity cases in new recruiting areas, instead apply that same thinking to MO kids in hopes the goodwill will rub off on the prized in state kids).. then the 3-4 star kids from FLA want to come to Mizzou bc we're a stable and winning program, not bc we took out the garbage in his town a few years ago.

I've heard it said before that recruits in SEC country like a little more "love" and attention than in other parts of the US. Perhaps our coaches just need to be a little more assertive, effusive and persistent. If kids in Missouri are showing they are receptive to tactics like this, it's what we need to be doing. No question.
It makes me really mad to hear a recruit say that Mizzou just didn't pursue him that hard. That gets back to what I said a few days ago - I expect coaches paid that well to earn their salaries. This means not getting outworked.

This is what I find to be perplexing about the whole situation. Pinkel is taking a commit from a project OL out of Georgia but doesn't seem to be pursuing Johnson, Bauer or Wallace that hard at all and they are all 4*s that are a short drive from Columbia. If it was me, I would have a coach living at all three of their schools whenever it was allowed.

Thank you!!!! It's not rocket science, you know? It's recruiting! Hearing this stuff from St. Louis kids is just infuriating.
Interesting is that we don't hear it from Kansas City kids nearly as much. Andy Hill recruits that area, and kids love him. There may be kids we don't get, but you don't hear that t's because we're not pursuing them hard.

This is my point exactly. And not just that, but there are only so many OLine commits you can take and I fear we're filling up our quota without having pushed hard after the Missouri boys.

I am NOT a huge Pinkel fan, but having said that, he isn't losing in state kids for lack of effort. He is losing kids because of 1) Negative recruiting which cross the line of personal attacks, IMO & 2) His contract.
The kids we are landing from out of state just want to go to a competitive SEC school that looks the part with regard to facilities and fanbase. They aren't getting hit as hard with the negative recruiting because the biggest offenders aren't recruiting those kids, yet.

I'm not going to say he got outworked in reality, but I do believe the perception by some of the recruits is that others are outworking him and that perception is just as important, if not more so, than the reality. I'm fairly confident that the perception in the Bauer case is that Freeze outworked the Mizzou staff. Maybe it's a case of MU got the commitment and, while still giving some love, wasn't giving as much of it in order to keep the commitment. Now that we lost the commitment, I wouldn't be surprised that the efforts picked back up again.
I do agree that the negative recruiting and his contract are being used against him but gimmicks like a helicopter only work the first time or two and you can't expect to swoop in at the last minute and bedazzle kids with it anymore.

Bauer got a compensation offer Mizzou is not willing to meet.

Compensation offer? I attended desmet (i was a senior while Andy was a freshman) even then he was a beast at football, he and his family were always very PRO mizzou. I don't know if it is Pinkels contract uncertainty his poor record last year. Or lack of recruiting but my best guess would be its a little bit of all three. IMO andy seemed bent on mizzou while I was there. Maybe he did not get looked at enough or maybe things changed with him personally. But I'm just saying what I witnessed
Kenya Dennis a JUCO CB from Mississippi committeed today. Had offers from Auburn and Arky. Supposedly ran a 4.38 40.

Things definitely changed. Ole Miss came after him. The reports from mississippi are all over the place about what they are doing in recruiting. Their own AD got hundreds of emails they are still investigating because of what they are doing. It isn't rocket science. Bauer still loves Mizzou but he isn't coming here without a drastic change between now and next February.

I guess we will see if it's Mizzous lack of effort or Ole Miss great efforts after this year.

You sound quite knowledgeable about the situation. I've heard stories, and have been told they're being watched, but nothing concrete. At least as far as out of state kids, instate is a different story.
SEC recruiting is a whole other ballgame. I'd hate to see us get into that shady business if we can be competitive without it.

Great post all the way around, particularly that last sentence.

Of course I can't guarantee it, but I would be highly, I mean highly shocked if that were the case with the Bauers. Have met and talked to him and his dad. Good, solid people and hardly need someone else to buy him a car or whatever. My guess is Trueson is right on with his take.

I truly question some of the things going on at Ole Miss as well, but just don't see it in this instance.
