I think a lot of people gave the rebels a little too much credit for beating teams that are having sub-par seasons (normal in vandys case)

"Contend" for the SEC west is objectionable. At what point can you define a team as "contending". Win the West? Tie for 1st but not make Atlanta? Come in 2nd? 3rd? Be within 2 games of 1st place?
Technically, at the start of a year every team in the division is "contending" for the SEC west.
