Brian Hadad of the Supertalk has claimed numerous times that MSU cannot have a great season with that loss and that is what 2014 isn't great in his mind. I disagree 100% with that. Yes I don't think of 2014 as great. But it is not because of Ole Miss.

It's because of Alabama. We lost the SEC West, the SEC Title Game, and a birth in the playoff that day. The Ole Miss game is 2nd in my mind if we win the SEC. Just look at Alabama this past season. Do they care that they lost to Auburn? No.

So to answer the question. In my mind Mississippi State can have a great season if they defeat Alabama with the right record. That's just a program changing win. Let's face it. Ole Miss just isn't.

I'm already liking this season. But man I'm so tired of losing to them! I know pretty much everyone is. But no one is as close to them as we are! It's our 2nd rivalry in my mind. We just haven't made it as intense as it was in the 90's and 2000's

Assuming we could go into the egg bowl with the SEC West secured and rest some guys in the egg bowl in preparation for the SECCG, then yeah, a loss to Ole Miss wouldn't be a big deal. Lose it then have to depend on the outcome of the Iron Bowl to get us in the backdoor of the SECCG, even if we make it would somewhat put a damper on it in my opinion, but Bama losing to Auburn last year didn't seem to hurt their season.

Winning the Egg Bowl can make us feel better about a bad season but doesn't define a good season. See 2009 and 2016 seasons for example.

2014 was great. We were ranked $1 in the country for a solid month, were featured on the cover of multiple Sports Illustrated magazines, and went 9-2 in the regular season.

That said, the two regular season losses were in the two games that mattered the most and then we proceed to loose in our NY6 bowl. That does leave a sting. I would've been fine loosing to Ole Miss and winning the Orange Bowl.

Last year was a great season too, yet we also lost the Egg Bowl. We still beat a Lamar Jackson lead Louisville team despite having no starting QB and a skeleton crew coaching staff.

I hated losing the Orange Bowl and to Bama more than losing to ole miss in 2014.

I think I'm more pissed at Mullen for his "I don't give a shite, I'm outta here" last year than actually losing to Ole miss.

Ask yourself this, if you could go 1-1 this year between Bama and ole miss, would you take a win in tuscaloosa if it meant a loss in oxford? I would.

The Orange Bowl was just infuriating because they looked like they did not prepare at all defensively. Deshea Townsend was one lazy arse interim DC. Also frick Geoff Collins.

I agree with this.

Maybe it's because I don't live in Ms anymore, but ole miss is pretty irrelevant nationally (aside from scandal talk). Our focus should be on beating and doing well against notable teams ie LSU, aTm, bama, auburn.

A win against ole miss can salvage a bad season, but certainly doesn't define a good season.

I'm guessing Hadad lives in Ms and is surrounded by bearsharts.
