come on man...this year wasn't going to be a "top 20-25 class" regardless. We were never going to have the numbers.

That IN on list was extremely short this year: Thomas, Griffin, Stallings, Smith, Carter, two of which have been committed to other schools for quite some time. Who else were we IN on???

But don't count the in home visits that even got Griffin and Humphrey to visit in the first place.

We were fighting uphill battles for all these guys listed above. Cross country, late offers, and momma we couldn't satisfy...

There will be plenty of times to complain, but this year isn't one of them.

And Griffin may still choose MSU (doubt it), and OJ Smith isn't signing anything tomorrow

If we switched classes with you guys, I would be disappointed. Sure, there are diamonds to be found but the correlation between recruiting rankings and program success over time just doesn't lie.

Our problem has been player attrition and I think Hugh is our best coach in over a decade in that area. I saw where Nutt lost almost 40% of the players he signed before they graduated and that's insane. Hugh is sitting at about 10% now.

TL;DR and it's ok. Mullen and staff can develop players.

#believe

Edit: Not even sure I give a shite seeing as our top 2 recruits from 2012 are either off the team or riding the bench. I hate the diamonds in the rough card but at the same time, damn, most of the kids we have putting out are 3 stars.

Top recruits in class...
2010 (3 4*'s): Damien Robinson
2011 (2 4*'s): Dee Arrington, James Maiden, Joe Morrow
2012 (1 5*, 3 4*'s): Quay Evans, Nick James

Four 4 star kids in a 20 signee class doesn't look so bad considering...

Edit Again: Damn, that 2011 class was busting at the seams with 2 stars that are looking mean. We shouldn't have let Merlin's diamond in the rough secret out of the bag.

i agree, we do need to start recruiting better no doubt.

I was just pointing out that in home visits by Mullen arent the sole reason we aren't recruiting in the top 10.

Let's be honest here, MSU has more to overcome with recruits than probably any other school in the SEC. Even crappy teams can sell their city/surrounding location.

Yeah, that has to help. Let's just hope Bama closes with who they think tomorrow so a spot doesn't open up for him.

This class is nothing to write home about but I'm going to wait and judge Mullen on next year. He should have the most talented team he's had during his time at state, new stadium, and a lot of talent in MS that he wouldn't even have to go out of stare to get.

Also the play on the field next year. If he can't beat a real team next season, none of this recruiting shite matters.

The Alabama staff has got to feel good about 5-star OLB Rashaan Evans and 5-star DE Chad Thomas to offer Smith and Chris Williams (flipped to UCF this morning) greyshirts this late in the process.

I hate it for both of them because they have been commits for a long time.

Think you're right b/c J Bone tweeted that OJ declined Bama's grey shirt offer. Doesn't make him an MSU lock by any stretch but can't hurt

ETA- missed engie's post

Except for the fact that had we recruited better it would certainly make it easier to beat a real team. Sort of a chicken and egg thing.
