Western Kentucky Football 2013 Roster

Broadcast: ESPNews

Key players for the Hilltoppers:

- Sr. RB Antonio Andrews: He's right behind Barry Sanders in NCAA All-Purpose Yards and has eclipsed Bobby Rainey's WKU rushing records.

- Jr. DB Jonathan Dowling: We all unfortunately remember the University of Florida transfer as the guy who picked off Max Smith 3 times in last year's matchup.

Then of course there's this guy:

Line: On most sites Kentucky is anywhere between a 4.5-5 point favorite.

Just some notes regarding the WKU game/season:

- WR Demarco Robinson will be UK's primary punt returner this season.

- DT Patrick Graffree is transferring to EKU, likely due to lack of PT.

- UK WR Rashad Cunningham will not be playing this season but will be practicing with the team.

- Sr. PK Joe Mansour hasn't officially been named starter but it's very likely he will be. Per Stoops he's hit at least two 50+ yard FGs in game/scrimmage situations.

- DE Za'Darius Smith has returned to the field. You can see him talk about that here.

- C Max Godby has played his way to the top of the depth chart and has earned a scholarship for this season. Some video on this.

- Max Smith and Jalen Whitlow split walkthrough reps on Saturday.

- Stoops quote on how the offense will be run with Brown:

quote:

"He'll call all the plays, but obviously I'll make all the decisions, whether it's four-down territory or when to take a shot and have some input and things like that," Stoops said. "But he'll call the plays. But I'll just be there to manage it, and like I said make the decisions on four down or punting and going for it and just, you know, here or there."

Brown will call plays from the sideline, relying on wide receivers coach Tommy Mainord to be his eyes in the press box. Offensive coordinators have different philosophies on game-day positioning, but Brown has good reason why he wants to be as close to the action as possible.

UK will be off tomorrow and return to practice on Monday.

I don't think Stoops should, or will, overlook WKU. They have Petrino and he is a solid game planner and X's and O's guy. I think they will score a few times on y'all but at the same time I still think you win by 2 or more touchdowns. If you guys play to your potential it won't be close.

Hey Belle, Do you know if Coach Elliot will be on the field coaching defense or in the box? I know Coach Stoops coached from the field a lot as FSU DC. Didn't know if he preferred his OC and DC's on the field or upstairs. I'm sure Coach Stoops will be a little more hands on with the Defense side of things.

Jeff Drummond over at Scout.com got some great pics from practice today (it was opened up for an hour to media).

DE Za'Darius Smith

WR Alex Montgomery going up for a catch

TE Anthony Kendrick

Asst. Coach Chad Scott with WRs Ryan Timmons, Javess Blue, and Daryl Collins

DBs Glenn Faulkner, Jaleel Hytchye, Fred Tiller and Blake McClain.

JUCO DT Melvin Lewis

Another of DE Za'Darius Smith

DT Donte Rumph

QB Jalen Whitlow

Coach Stoops

And probably one of my favorites:

DL Coach (former Auburn player) Jimmy Brumbaugh demonstrating technique for Bud Dupree and Farrington Huguenin.

Both should be on the field. I want to say Stoops mentioned it in a post-practice press conference a couple weeks ago.

What happened to UKWildcatsFan? He's a WKU fan so I'm surprised we aren't hearing from him more.

There are some things we don't talk about because it's like Beetlejuice and they may show up.

Those are some awesome pics. Za'Darius is a grown fricking man.

I know Neal Brown will be on the sidelines. I think Mainord is going to be in the booth for the offense.

I'm ready for this team to take the field.

UK needs to win this game to instill confidence with the new regime.

Kige. I think this is an extremely important game for spirit and recruiting. Win this one and the Stoops era is off to a good start, even though the overall season will be bad, but folks will realize quickly that his system will work with the right players.
Lose this one, and the season could be a 2 win downward spiral with bad losses to UL/Bama/SC/Florida. Could impact the recruiting class for 2014.
Pretty important game to me, but I do expect UK to win 24-14.
Is there a prediction thread?

Feel free to start one.

And I agree, this game is pretty important this season going forward. But I think Stoops knows that and has alluded to that when talking about it. Plus, I think the players are still pissed off about last season's game and want to right the ship.

Frankly, I just want to see Bobby Petrino lose.
