What exactly is an alter?

I googled it and got the textbook definition to change something...
So I googled message board alter and get results about gaming sites apparently?
What is an alter on this site? Someone with more than one account apparently?
Pretending to root for another team?
I was accused of being one and tried to research it on my own but am not having any luck.
It cost me access to the Mizzou board.

An alter on TD/SECR is a second account created for the sole purpose to circumvent the original account having their posting privileges suspended.

Thanks for answering my question Lew. A poster named "sofa" on the last page of that thread nailed it. I actually walk up to people wearing ANY sec clothing or hats at Providence Place, or any other place I see them.
That's why I posted like a maniac when I found this site.
It is what it is on the Mizzou board but I really just wanted to talk football with them. Part of it is my fault for entering into debates with a few of their fans. I now see there are good ones and a few bad ones. Probably not that much different from any other fan base.
I do wish I could comment to that sofa Mizzou fan tho, he gets it.
