I read deadspin back when the comments section was actually worth reading. That was their stated mission. Some of the funniest content on the site was produced by the commenters. There is no reason to think a group of people as passionate about something as SEC fans are can't be really funny or really knowledgeable. I think the SECr has the capability of being phenomenally entertaining. You just have to push out the tired memes and repeat things that people post because they think they are supposed to. What we have now is posting by formula/number. The posting needs to evolve to moving the thread forward or entertaining.

Maybe people should be confined to their team boards and request access to the SEC Rant. If you frick up, you're back on the team board

This can be seen in that you cannot start a thread about ANYTHING without some crap getting started, or someone purposely flaming and calling people out (this thread will more than likely suffer the same). You cannot start a thread discussing issues or asking opinions on an opposing team without the barrage of being told you are obsessed or butthurt. Whatever happened to someone being able to start a thread that encourages discussion instead without having to deal with people ganging up on you? If you don't believe me, then pick a number of threads on here and start reading them. As you're reading, see how quickly it goes from a possibly good discussion to complete garbage, sayings, and memes.
In my opinion, this board has really become the total opposite of what it was started for. With all that being said, I am taking a self imposed ban for a long while, if not permanently. For all those that have been here from the start of the SECrant it's been fun and I hope you all have safe travels over the summer and into football season. For all the others that constantly flame, criticize, and do absolutely nothing to bring anything useful or informative to the board, congratulations on screwing up a good forum.
AMEN!
The board has adopted a 'in Mom's basement teenage mentality' over the past few years.
I doubt 1/50 here are season ticket holders, donors, or an alumnus.
Take care.

Definitely have to wade through a ton of crap for a small amount of substance.

Damn shame all of the good posters are being run off.
It is happening on boards across the county. Not sure what has been in the water the past few years but it seems to have clogged up peoples ability to listen to what the other guy is saying before making snarky comments.
Maybe there needs to be a "limited" board where your peers vote you in or out but i would not want to make more work for Chicken.

I've lobbied for this before. Instead of a up/down vote on your posts, there is an up/down vote on your profile where people can only vote once. If you get to a certain number of negative votes, it's an automatic bye bye.

I've been on or around these here internets for a considerable amount of time. I've found that when people really want to leave a community, they leave pretty quietly without long, nostalgia-filled posts about how "this place was better before it became popular." The ones that post this sort of hack, unoriginal diatribe usually come back pretty quickly, because they don't really want to leave, they just want the attention that this sort of post sometimes brings.
Anyway, I'm sure that you're the one exception to this in the history of the internet, so, take care!

I love this idea. You are a very good poster BTW, I enjoy reading your comments.

You don't need that. The blueprint has already been laid out. An admin team that recognizes entertaining contributions making those commenters featured has worked on deadspin. When people are working toward the goal of being featured, it really cuts down on the crap. The site should maintain the control so it can steer the level of the conversation to the highest level it can sustain.

Seems you're not the only one to think along these lines. Maybe you should consider sticking around and maybe change the tone of the SECr with the others that seem to agree with you.

Nah, you would have fan bases targeting any poster who dared to say anything agsainst their team.

I tend to agree. Even though I understand a lot of what the OP is saying, this just smacks of taking it all too seriously.
We're strangers on the internet talking about kids playing a game. Are there some idiots out there who think they're funny when they're really just obnoxious spouters of tired cliches? Yes.
But again, we're strangers on the internet talking about kids playing a game. What makes people think it should be taken seriously?
It's entertainment, it's distraction from our lives. It's fun. Some people have their fun by having serious in depth discussions (which can be found, believe it or not) and some people have their fun by trolling and goofing off and calling people stupid cliches.
Who cares? None of it is a big deal.

What you are referring to RollTide MJ, is society these days in general. It's all very disrespectful, snarky, smarmy, etc. You're not going to change it with this act - you've a better chance of being a good influence by sticking-around honestly.
And remember one thing - it's the off-season. Stuff gets a little crazy in the off-season, everywhere.
