Hi Matt,

This morning myself and our 16 head coaches released the following statement across Florida Gators social platforms. Please take a moment to read our open letter below:

"Respect. What does that mean to us?

Respect is a core value of the Florida Gators.

Respect: We treat each other with fairness, honesty, kindness, and civility.

Sometimes honesty is hard. Sometimes it means taking a look in the mirror and asking ourselves if we're upholding our values. Right now, we're doing that, as should all Americans

Racism, brutality, violence, oppression, injustice and indifference are not manifestations of respect. When we look around and see these things occurring, we have no choice but to stand together shoulder to shoulder, committed to doing more and demanding more.

This will require continuous action. This will require honest, tough, often uncomfortable conversations. For many of us, that means taking the initiative in educating ourselves, listening to and believing in experiences that are different from our own. It means hearing the voices of our Black teammates, colleagues, neighbors and friends, for whom the best ideals of our nation often remain a promise unfulfilled.

And the bottom line is everyone can do more. So, from this moment forward, we recommit ourselves to accountability and living out our values, to respecting each other by seeing each person's full humanity, to better understanding experiences, pain, struggles, challenges and realities that are different from our own. And to being the change we want to see in our community, our nation and our world."

Thank you,
Scott Stricklin

another update regarding football season

Hi Matt,

I trust you are doing well and staying safe. As UAA staff and athletes begin returning to campus, I’d like to recap that timeline while also providing you with an idea of what will drive future decisions related to competition and fan attendance.

We have made and will continue to make decisions surrounding COVID-19 by relying on the guidance of UF Health, campus leadership, state health officials, and the SEC’s Medical Guidance Task Force. With input and assistance from medical experts, a plan has been put in place to promote a safer environment for both student-athletes and athletic department staff.

Next Monday, June 8, Gator student-athletes will begin having access to our weight rooms for voluntary, in-person workouts, which will be supervised by strength and sports medicine staff. After going through a physical health screening, which will include COVID-19 testing, student-athletes will have the ability to return in stages over the next couple of weeks, beginning with football and continuing with volleyball and soccer.

Athletes in other sports will have the opportunity to return to campus for workouts beginning in July, once again in a staged approach that will include health screening and testing.

Looking ahead to the fall, the UAA is currently preparing as though athletic events will be played as scheduled. Currently, the Gators’ first scheduled competition for 2020-21 is a soccer match on August 21. Football’s first game is September 5 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

What will our venues look like once those games are played? That’s a popular question and one for which today there is not a clear answer. However, our goal is to accommodate as many Gator fans as UF Health and state health officials deem appropriate. My sense today, in early June, is that the more time we allow to gather information and receive further medical guidance, the better the chances we have to engage as many fans as possible on campus this fall. By early August, we should have a better idea what fan attendance can look like.

We are very much looking forward to the day when we can all be together and celebrate Gator Athletics.

Thanks for your continued support and Go Gators!

Best,
Scott Stricklin

Latest Updates from Scott Stricklin

Hi Matt,

How are you doing today? We hope your week is going well and that you're staying safe and healthy.

With COVID-19 updates changing every week, Scott Stricklin held a press conference on Tuesday to share the latest updates from the University Athletic Association.

We have included the full 50-minute press conference for you here, but also wanted to share a few of the key points for you below. You can also watch a 4-minute clip from the press conference by clicking the play button above:
• The UAA's number one priority right now is the safety of our student-athletes, staff, and fans.
• The UAA is continuing to work closely with UF Health and several other groups to make college athletics as safe as possible in this COVID-19 environment.
• Scott has continued to see how student-athletes are feeling, including a recent Zoom call with the Florida Football Leadership Committee, a group that consists of around 20 current players. Their overall tone was positive surrounding voluntary workouts and returning full-time.
• Student-athletes in voluntary workouts are undergoing temperature checks, health screenings, wearing masks, and participating in continual education to promote a culture of safety.
• A lot of healthy conversations circulating from the SEC Athletic Directors meeting in Birmingham for what's to come with fall sports. However, with so many unknowns still, the group is working hard to fill in some blanks.
• Our staff is spending a lot of time on different spacing scenarios for Ben Hill Griffin Stadium this fall.
• Virtual recruiting visits have been taking place and have some great benefits.
• Working to conserve our resources to continue providing full resources for our student-athletes, as well as supporting our current staff.
Thank you for your continued support of the Florida Gators! You're the fuel that keeps us going through the good times and hard times. And as always, Go Gators!

SEC Announces a 10-Game Conference Schedule

Hi Matt,

The Southeastern Conference has established September 26 as the new kickoff for the 2020 football season, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Thursday. The 2020 SEC football season will be comprised of a 10-game Conference-only schedule.

This action was taken following extensive discussions and thorough deliberation among the SEC’s Presidents and Chancellors, Athletics Directors, Conference Office staff, and medical advisors, led by the SEC’s Return to Activity and Medical Guidance Task Force.

A revised schedule for the 2020 season will be announced at a later date following approval by the Conference’s athletic directors.

“The safety of our student-athletes, staff and fans will remain the top priority as we navigate the return to collegiate athletic competition,” UF Athletics Director Scott Stricklin said. “We will continue to lean on the advice of the SEC Medical Task Force, UF Health, CDC, Campus and state health officials as we develop safety protocols and stadium capacity guidelines.”

The SEC Football Championship Game will be played December 19 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, rescheduled from the original date of December 5. The schedule will include one mid-season open date for each school and an open date on December 12 for all schools.

“Once we have an idea of what our attendance capacity could be, we will release our ticketing and seating plan and communicate that to our 2020 season ticket holders,” Stricklin added. “That plan will include multiple, flexible options for 2020 and whatever option they choose, their season tickets will be available for them to renew in the 2021 season.”

The decision to limit competition to Conference-only opponents and rescheduling the SEC Championship Game is based on the need for maximum flexibility in making any necessary scheduling adjustments while reacting to developments around the pandemic and continued advice from medical professionals.

“While we are still navigating some uncertainty, I do know that each day we move closer to the time when Gators fans can be together to cheer on the Orange and Blue,” said Stricklin.
