I think we will be fine with NIL. Napier seems to have a good grasp about its importance, and a vision and plan to put us in position to thrive.

I wish we had Napier a year earlier when Mullen was looking to go to the NFL after the 2020 season. If we had another year of Napier we'd be in great position already now.

Arch Manning opens up on his recruitment
Sam Spiegelman • about 4 hours

quote:

New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Arch Manning opened spring practice on Monday after an eventful spring, which included visits to Alabama, Georgia and Texas.

Manning, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, has no timeline for a decision but is moving closer to figuring out his next steps. He’s likely to see a few more schools this summer, including some official visits, and then re-examine his next move.

“I’m trying to get there,” Manning told On3 of making his decision. “I want to get through this spring with this new offense and new coaches (at Newman), so after spring I’m gonna see about the official visits.”

“It’s kind of getting closer. I don’t really have a point yet, but I guess it’s kind of narrowing stuff down. I’m looking forward to (making a decision) either before the season or during the season or after the season. If I was ready I’d probably commit right now, but I’m not, so I’m just waiting.”

Manning told On3 Texas, Alabama and Georgia are all under consideration, and he’s planning visits to see both LSU and Florida.

On Texas: “Maintaining the relationship with those guys (Steve Sarkisian, AJ Milwee); staying in touch over normal conversations has been good. The visit to Austin, we got to see practice and see what it’s all about. We sat in the quarterback meeting. It was fun to see how they interacted, and I’m excited to see what they can do this year. They got a few transfers from Alabama, and I think that offense can be explosive. Austin is a big city compared to the other two, so it reminds me a little bit of New Orleans. It’s a little weird, and they’ve got good coaches there.”

On Alabama: “Those coaches are all good guys. Alabama is a machine and everyone knows it. They practice hard, and they have dudes all over the place. They got a few good transfers and I’m excited to see that. Alabama has recently been able to have high quarterback play, so that’s been fun to watch and fun to look at in terms of making a decision.”

On Georgia: “I love coach Kirby (Smart), and he’s a real normal guy, a great coach. Georgia, the takeaway from practice there, is that they have athletes all over the field, especially on the defensive line. They have some studs and it shows; they had 15 players drafted. Athens is probably the best college town I’ve ever been to. The coaches are all good people, they know how to win, know what it takes, and it was cool seeing that.”

On Florida: “I’ve had a few conversations with Florida. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Coach (Billy) Napier, so I might want to get check and see what they’re all about.”

On LSU: “Coach (Brian) Kelly knows how to win … He’s won everywhere he goes pretty much. I have a former teammate, Bo (Bordelon), so he’s going up there this summer. I want to check him out, see how he does in practice and I’ll probably go up there for a game.”

Manning is one of three Five-Star Plus+ prospects in the 2023 cycle along with Los Alamitos (Calif.) quarterback Malachi Nelson and Lakeland (Fla.) Lake Gibson cornerback Cormani McClain.

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $3.1 million. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Texas and Georgia are believed to be pulling away from Alabama in the race for Manning, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. The Longhorns have the current lead at 60.1% with the Bulldogs coming up in second with 26.9%. It is then a fairly steep drop off to the Crimson Tide at No. 3 with a 11% chance of landing Manning.

What a surprise the top 3 is three of the top four or five college teams with the biggest NIL so far. Even when your extended family has a lot of money you want your own. I have watched him on tape and if he didn't have that last name it doesn't look crazy good to me despite any talent level of the teams he played. Maybe he will look better and thrive in college though.

Gators land commitment from 2023 OL Bryce Lovett
JACOB RUDNER 10 hours ago
quote:

In its continuing effort to sign a large haul of offensive linemen in the 2023 class, Florida added its second player at the position to its commitment list on Monday.

Bryce Lovett, a 6-foot-5, 330-pound standout at Rockledge (Fla.) High School, announced his pledge to the Gators via Instagram Live. Lovett, who is also celebrating his 17th birthday on Monday, picked Florida over three other finalists, Iowa State, Louisville and Missouri.

Lovett, who is viewed as an offensive tackle by Florida, said his decision to commit to the Gators came down to his connections within the program.

“I just feel like my relationship with the whole coaching staff and how I feel comfortable there and what they have to offer for me with the [offensive line] and how they dedicate a lot to the [offensive line],” Lovett told Swamp247. “It really made it easy.”

A three-star prospect ranked No. 761 overall in the 2023 cycle on the 247Sports Composite, Lovett had plenty of opportunities to forge strong relationships with Florida’s staff members as he was among the team’s most frequent visitors this spring.

Lovett took five unofficial trips to Florida throughout the spring, including a visit on Jan. 29 when he received a scholarship offer. At one point, Lovett took visits to Florida on three consecutive Saturdays. It swayed him to ultimately pick the school.

“I went the first time when they offered me just to go see practice and everything,” Lovett said. “That’s when I learned that they were getting a new facility and how they ran practice and, obviously, that’s when I met the coaches for the first time. That first time seeing the practice really opened my eyes a lot because I wanted to get out of Florida to go to college but after that it made me think. Then it was just about going back and building a relationship with the rest of the coaching staff and it just made it easy.”

Lovett said his connections with Florida co-offensive line coaches Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton clicked almost immediately and the three stayed in daily contact for roughly four months, which helped Lovett “make that decision because [he] felt comfortable.”

The three-star lineman, who reportedly attracted four other SEC offers, also built a good relationship with Florida head coach Billy Napier.

“We talk all the time and then when I go up there, we would always have little meetings to talk and then over the phone we would talk,” Lovett said. “What I like about him, he came in and instantly asked what the players wanted and there were three things he did off the bat that helped the players: living, eating, and parking. That’s the first thing he did and that shows a lot. Obviously, he’s focused on what the players want.”

Lovett’s frequent trips to Florida’s campus weren’t just about strengthening his connections with its staff. He also had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the program’s schedule for its athletes, how practices are run and even some of its offensive scheme.

He was particularly impressed with the practices, he said.

“The way they ran practice, they focus on your development more than I’ve ever even seen,” Lovett said. “They’ll teach you something and instantly go into a team period and practice that and they’ll do that like three times a practice so you can tell that they’re trying to get you better.”

Lovett was also able to have conversations with some of the Gators’ current players, including sophomore offensive lineman Richie Leonard, who went to high school just five miles from Lovett’s school. Lovett also spoke with junior starting left tackle Richard Gouraige and junior starting center Kingsley Eguakun, among others.

“They just came out and told me that they love the coaching staff way more,” Lovett said. “They like it way better than the old one.”

With his commitment out of the way, Lovett said he plans to spend the next several months focused on self-improvement with a goal of graduating in December and enrolling early at Florida.

“I think everything needs improvement,” Lovett said. “That’s just how I am. I don’t think I’m perfect at anything because I’m not. So all around, I need to just keep working.”

Lovett is Florida’s fifth 2023 commitment, joining four-star athlete Aaron Gates, four-star offensive lineman Knijeah Harris, three-star athlete Creed Whittemore and three-star wide receiver Tyree Patterson. The Gators rank No. 30 in the country in 2023 recruiting, surpassing Miami.

Gators rise up 247Sports team rankings with latest commitment
BLAKE ALDERMAN 11 hours ago
quote:

The Florida Gators opened the day with the No. 37 ranked 2023 recruiting class on Monday, but that changed with the newest commitment of Rockledge (Fla.) three-star offensive lineman Bryce Lovett. The in-state big man picked the Gators over other finalists Iowa State, Missouri, and Louisville.

This addition moved the Gators up to No. 30 in the latest 247Sports team recruiting rankings for the class of 2023. The Gators jumped the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Iowa State, Oregon, and Miami on their climb up. The Gators now hold 5 verbal commitments to date for their 2023 recruiting class.

The Gators have been seen as the odds on favorite for the 6-foot-5, 330-pounder for most of the spring, after he was a regular visitor to Gainesville. New offensive line coaches Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton worked quickly to forge a strong bond with Lovett. Along with them, the Gators also have other staffers who are hands on with offensive linemen. The attention to his position was one of the biggest standouts to Lovett about the Orange and Blue.

"It's the relationship I have with the new coaching staff and what they are trying to do," Lovett said when asked what he likes about the Gators. "And then they got like five o-line coaches. They are so dedicated to the offensive line, it's crazy."

The Gators are high on the versatility Lovett brings along the front line, and see him being able to be a plug and play type player.

"They want to bring me in to play tackle, but I can play anywhere and they know that," he said. "So they said if there's an opportunity for me to play guard, they would put me at guard or wherever I need to be. They want to slim me down a little bit, cut some weight and put some muscle on.

"I'm cool with anything. I can play all over the line. I've been playing all over the line my whole life."

Lovett is set to use his official visit to Florida the first weekend of June, on the 3rd through the 5th. He's had the Gators leading in his recruitment since his most recent visit to Florida when he was up for the team spring football game in April.

The Gators 2023 class currently sits at 5 verbal commitments to date with the addition of Lovett. Those other names include Sharpsburg (GA) Trinity Christian School four-star athlete Aaron Gates, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star interior offensive lineman Knijeah Harris, Gainesville (Fla.) Buchholz four-star wide receiver Creed Whittemore, and Eustis (Fla.) three-star wide receiver Tyree Patterson.

The 247Sports Composite, an industry generated average, currently ranks Lovett as the Nation's No. 726 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting class and No. 61 ranked offensive tackle in the 2023 recruiting class.

I agree Finch.

I'll trust Billy until he gives me reason not to, but I do want to see him start pulling in more higher ranked guys as time goes on.

Florida Gators 2023 Recruits to Know: Defensive End/Edge Rushers
Defensive ends and edge rushers to know in the 2023 recruiting cycle for the Florida Gators.
CONNER CLARKE
May 18, 2022
quote:

With the 2023 recruiting cycle in full swing and getting to the all-important spring/summer evaluation period, the Florida Gators are looking to make significant moves on the trail now that head coach Billy Napier and his staff have had some time to gain their footing in Gainesville.

After previously breaking down prospects to know at every position on offense, AllGators is taking a look at the early targets that have emerged on the Gators' board along the defensive line that can play the strong-side defensive end or JACK linebacker position, the edges of the front-four.

Derrick LeBlanc, Osceola (Fla.)
We will start the list with the prospect that has been on campus almost as much as the players that already play for UF. LeBlanc has been a priority target for Florida since Billy Napier and his staff stepped on campus. Making the trip up to Gainesville seven times since the current staff took over, it is safe to say that the interest between the two parties is mutual.

LeBlanc is a big kid with great size at 6-foot-4, 270 pounds, who can play either defensive end or slide inside to tackle should he continue to fill out his frame once he gets to campus at the college of his choosing.

LeBlanc released a list of top programs in December, narrowing his extensive offer list down to just seven schools, but it seems like a few programs have separated themselves from the pack with the Gators looking like they are the front runners.
He was supposed to announce his college decision with fellow Orlando area prospects Payton Kirkland and Malik Bryant on July 23 but recently shared that he needs more time to assess his options.

Keon Keeley, Berkley Prep (Fla.)
Keeley, a Notre Dame commit, is one of the nation’s elite edge rushers. Standing at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, he already has a college-ready frame and everything you look for when you’re recruiting someone that can get after the quarterback.
Keeley has first-step quickness, size, strength and speed to go with his impressive frame and that is exactly why just about every top program in the country is continuing to recruit him regardless of his commitment status.

The Tampa (Fla.) native has admitted that he grew up a fan of the Gators and that he has enjoyed each and every trip his taken to campus, most recently visiting on March 5. While he does remain locked in with the Irish, don’t expect Florida to take its foot off the gas when it comes to trying to flip the talented pass-rusher.
The Gators will continue to push all the way until he signs his letter of intent and for good reason. You simply cannot let homegrown talent like that leave the state of you are Florida.

Tomarrion Parker, Central (Ala.)
Parker is a prospect that had the Gators as his leader early on in his recruitment under the previous coaching staff. However, the relationship started to sour a bit as things were winding down for Dan Mullen and his tenure at Florida.

In February, Parker released a top six and the Gators were on the outside looking in. However, fast forward two months to April and Billy Napier and his staff have been able to get right back in the thick of Parker's recruitment. So much so, that he has labeled them as one of his top three schools after making the trip down to Gainesville on April 14 for the spring game.

Parker is the high school teammate of UF cornerback target AJ Harris. Harris and Parker have hinted on social media that they are a “package deal," and while history suggests that that is not likely to happen, Florida will continue to recruit both prospects in an attempt to get them to Gainesville based on their evaluation of each individual.

Malik Bryant, Jones (Fla.)
While many think that Bryant will transition to linebacker at the next level because of his height, Florida outside linebackers coach Mike Peterson continues to be the primary recruiter for the Orlando-based prospect.

Bryant released a top five of Florida, Miami, Alabama, USC, and UCF on May 1 and has an official visit locked in with the Gators for June 10. Bryant is probably the hardest to read when it comes to the trio of elite Orlando prospects, LeBlanc, Kirkland and himself, as he typically keeps updates on his recruitment close to the vest.

He did name Alabama his leader after taking an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa in early April and it’s hard to see any other team winning out for a recruit if the Crimson Tide really wants them. That being said, Napier and his staff have done an excellent job of making Bryant feel like a priority and could make a move on his official visit.

It is worth noting that when asked about his recruitment and his July 23 commitment date Bryant had this to say to a media outlet, “I’m not shut down anywhere until I sign on the dotted line.”

Anthony James, Wylie East (Texas)
James, a prospect that is currently committed to Texas A&M, is another recruit that the Florida coaching staff is looking to flip. While James has yet to make the trip over to Gainesville, he does have an official visit scheduled with the Gators as well as with two other programs, none of them being A&M.

On June 3, James will get his first chance to see what the University of Florida has to offer. However, just because that will be James' first time on campus does not mean he’s not in regular contact or familiar with the UF coaches. In fact, Sean Spencer just made his way out to Texas to see James during practice on May 16.
The other two official visits locked in for James are to Miami on June 10 and Washington on June 24.

Zavion Hardy, Tattnall Square Academy (Ga.)
Hardy announced on Twitter just under a week ago that he would be releasing his top five schools on June 5. While many think that South Carolina is currently the front-runner for the 6-foot-5, 260-pound defensive line prospect, the Gators had quite a bit of momentum in his recruitment in early March.

Just a day or two after Hardy’s visit on March 5, Florida head coach Billy Napier tweeted out his signature sunglass emoji that signifies a prospect has committed to the Gators. There was a lot of speculation as to who it might be, with Hardy being the player many thought it was directed toward.

The smoke has since settled and if it was Hardy, the Gators do not seem to be the clear-cut favorite anymore. I would however expect them to be in the top five that Hardy will release next month, and the Gators should be right in the thick of his recruitment until the very end.

Honorable mention
Kelby Collins, Gardendale (Ala.)
Keldric Faulk, Highland Home (Ala.)
AJ Hoffler, Woodward Academy (Ga.)
TJ Searcy, Upson-Lee (Ga.)
Rico Walker, Hickory (N.C.)
Damon Wilson, Venice (Fla.)

Goldkamp mentioned a few months back that he was "exploring options" to take his career in a different direction. I think dealing with a lot of the posters on the 247 forum started getting old.

I liked his reporting, will be missed.

The 247 forum is the worst collection of Gator fans on the Internet.

Sucks that there are a few good posters on it with useful tidbits and that much of the articles from there have good information. Otherwise, I'd never go to it.

Well with NIL it shouldn't matter as the bulk of that is mostly what the big boosters are willing to do to keep the top players there and to sign top 150 type recruits. My guess is we will fall about #7 to #9 with that in getting top 150 recruits. I think Napier will be good at getting the 4 stars that can't quite command crazy NIL deals though which could elevate the classes to better than #7 though.

It is what it is probably and you probably aren't landing him unless the NIL deal is in the ballpark of the highest one he is offered. You almost need a salary cap guy now with this NIL crap to say whether a deal makes sense with your other needs.

A lot of the 247 guys are blaming the UAA and Stricklin by not hiring a “competent” coach/recruiter. Their words not mine.

They think if we don’t get Rashada, we’re not gonna get the following highlighted recruits.

They like to point at Kirby and Saban’s first class after a full season. Ours hasn’t appeared that it will follow suit, yet.

My view and what I have told people is that Napier is definitely putting the work in unlike Mullen but you are dreaming if you think you can compete top 150 recruits wise with some schools if their NIL offers are bigger and that doesn't fall on the coach. I think Napier will do just fine as long as he isn't clearly beaten on certain recruits because of NIL offers. If this was pre-NIL I think Napier would always be in the top 5 area in recruiting.
