I honestly think teams have been figuring out how to defend us....Mullen and staff need to break everything down to see if we are showing our hand pre snap. Subtle things can tip off defenses that we are going to run the ball or have routes that they know beforehand how to defend.

I've noticed I get a "run" feeling a lot while watching us and we run more times than not. Never been sure why or paid much attention to it but if I sense run...so do DCs I'd assume. Like it does feel like our runs are shown pre snap in some way. I'm sure you guys have noticed it too.

>600+ yards of offense.

>474 passing yards.

>34 points.

(Man, these guys really know how to stop us!!11!)

Yep, it's definitely time to check out of the Gator board.

Straws, dont use the stats as a lifeline..

everybody has noticed that the offense hasnt been the same for at least 3 weeks. When you are within the 10 yd line and have to kick FGs more often...then what gives?

DCs and their assts spend countless hrs looking at tape to see if there are tipoffs as to what the offense plans to do. It could be tone of voice ever so slightly changing when you go through pre snap counts....it could be certain WRs show a tendency before snaps...slight foot movements? OL could be signaling a tendency.

I honestly believe that Mullen is watching film of HIS offense to spot anything that Saban is seeing...a tweak here or there could fool the master. Teams are letting us have short routes and then rachet down when we get close to paydirt. Whats the use of 800 yds passing if you cant score TDs? Remember that saturday night 2 scores came via QB sneaks and we also got stuffed at the goal line on 4th and a yard. This isnt the same offense we have seen before in past games.

This might be the easiest question ever asked on this board.

Our running game works between the 20s because teams drop 7/8 every play to defend the pass. When we get inside the 10, teams no longer have to drop 7/8 and our running game becomes incapable of picking up those yards. With tighter windows, passing plays that work between the 20s become impossible to run and/or more difficult to execute

Straws you’re on the money. The only thing stopping our offense is our own failures.

-Not being able to convert on 4th and goal from the 1.

-An ill-advised (not terrible), pass that winds up in a fluke interception.

-Calling plays that seem to throw us out of rhythm every so often.

In spite of all of that AND Trask having his worst game of the season by far (which in all honesty is only bad by the standards we’ve come to hold him to), our offense still put up monster stats. We just couldn’t punch it in when it mattered.

I’m as mad as anyone for how it played out. We will all remember this season for what it could have been. But I think if we take a step back and look at the bigger picture here, we are well above where any of us thought we would be coming off of McElwains last season. The job here was always significantly tougher than what Kirby walked into.

I think we are in a position to be more of a Clemson under Dabo than Bama under Saban. If that’s how it plays out, I, along with all of Gator Nation will be glad with it. We’re ahead of schedule, but clearly not where we need to be, but I trust the direction of where we’re headed.

Amen pass the ammo. Of course we have glaring issues on defense...Mullen didnt recruit Marco, Stiner etc. But its hard to walk into a locker room and demand things when you are the brand new coach. I honestly think thats what happen in Knoxville when Pruitt tried to emulate Saban's discipline the first year. and they were losing out the gate to teams like Georgia State for Gods sake.

Dont expect azz chewings of players from Mullen. On the bright side, help is on the way with our recruiting class, we already have a lot of DBs on the roster and the bench is a great motivator when you have quality depth.

Let us not forget we also ran Davis on fourth and goal...our least powerful back. Which was just brilliant Steve Addazio level stuff. I was shocked Davis was running it. Pierce should clearly be the goal line back.

That’s exactly how I’ve viewed UF under Mullen.

Agreed 100% with that statement. That being said, we shouldn’t be running the ball in must have scenarios against any team with a pulse. We simply don’t have the testicular fortitude to take what we want up front. Even Toney was getting hit in the backfield and he’s as effective, if not more, than 1-2 blockers on every play by himself. A quick screen or pass out of the backfield would have put points on the board. The saddest part? A FG there would have meant a W at the end of the night, but I digress...

Next year a lot of the offense opens up with Trask leaving. As amazing as he’s been, our offense has been predictable, albeit damn near unstoppable, but predictable. Getting a true running threat behind center opens up the rest of the playbook. When you can call designed runs in passing situations, or the QB can make something out of nothing, it puts a lot of pressure on the defense.

And the greatest part about this season? You have to think that Mullen has learned a lot going to an Air Raid offense. When the QB room is officially all on him next season, I won’t be surprised to see the offense change completely from one week to the next. The ability to run the power spread one week, or an air raid the next will be a beautiful sight!

Trask may be back next year...honestly, he may not get a favorable rating with pro scouts...the NFL is a business and they evaluate differently than fans do.

A lot of successful college QBs either get drafted mid range or become FAs. Remember that Trask can use the NCAA free year if he wishes...if he isnt rated 1st round or high 2nd round lock?

I hope he is projected 1st round....but right now there are at least 5-6 QBs rated higher by McShay as an example.
