"During the COVID pandemic, the UAA's focus has been on safely conducting athletic events against outside competition while allowing a limited number of Gator fans to attend those games, per UF health guidelines," Florida Athletic Director Scott Stricklin said in a statement. "Beginning this Thursday, the Gators football team will have 15 practices that will encompass four weeks. However, hosting fans for an intra-squad spring football scrimmage seems unwise given all circumstances, including the fact that Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is being used as a large-scale COVID testing and vaccination site."

We need spring practice and a spring game, even if there are no fans in attendance, so this sounds good.

Makes no sense, if they are practicing they can have a scrimmage and call it a spring game. Televise it, no fans. Get some positive publicity. UF just doesn't think thru things very well if this is the final decision. But.....to rekindle an old argument, they are a left leaning, liberal university.

Finch... it's not that hard to know why. Go read the article on the Florida Gators website.
But, to keep it short:
- The stadium is being used as COVID vaccination site.
- Mullen wants to have an earlier start to practice and give the team extra time to "study" the playbook and stuff after spring practice is over.
- The attendance would have been awful, it is best to just not have it.

You mean a multi-million $ university doesn’t know how to keep its football team separate from its vaccine site without having to cancel a spring game?

Extra time? How many months are there between the spring and fall camps? How’s he gonna hold them accountable for that?

This has got to be the worse excuse of all. You don’t have to have attendance for a spring game. People are at home anyway.

Spring game or not, I just want the team to have a full offseason of conditioning work with Savage.
I feel like a lot of the issues with the team, especially putting teams away in the 2nd half last year were due to lack of the conditioning program because of all the COVID protocols.

Finch, you are a beacon of good news.
Box, I think our problems were because the lack of experienced defensive talent on the team...and the lack of inspired play. Our talent level was mediocre at best. Some of the upperclassmen on defense were more concerned about playing for pay and not giving a shite about UF. The offense joined them at the end of the season.
Our offense had great QB, good capable RBs who could catch the ball, very good WRs and say what you will about the OL. but they play much much better than 2019. Though not elite, they were a good unit. The defense had issues across the board....especially DBs. We didnt have adequate pass rush at times or the DBs would get toasted. Blitzes were not called often because the secondary was not capable of man coverage often.
Hate to say it, but college football has become a sewer hole now. Greed is rampant and we were in a society of me me me. Dread to think what college football will be like in 10-15 years. All the top players will have corporate sponsors...I can hear the play by play announce the phrase " Pepsi defensive tackle gets another sack". Dont laugh, its coming to a stadium near you.

Idk if this makes me less of a fan, but my enthusiasm for College Football in general has decreased pretty much year after year since I left Gainesville.
I watch UF, but I don't have the same level of excitement for games each week.

I would bet that they have one of the scrimmages on the SEC network from what Scott Stricklin put out about not having a spring game.
They are doing a good job with making practice more "viewable" through social media. Much more open to the fans than the complete lockdowns of years past.
I am just happy that they are having a whole spring with flexibility on the time frame.
