Mullen did one of the best coaching jobs I have ever seen

He won't win coach of the year, but the job he did this year is truly remarkable.
These are the same players that literally went 4-7 a year ago and looked like they didn't belong on the field with a bunch of SEC teams.
The job he did with a limited QB is amazing. The future is very bright!
Its great to be a Florida Gator!

I know it sounds stupid, but you could tell he was actually, you know, coaching.
How many seasons since 2009 has it felt like we run the same players out and see the same shitty gameplans, the same penalties, the same problems in execution?
2018 was a different (usually better) team every week. They played well versus rivals and in big games, we saw improvement at every position group. These are things we should take for granted but just didn't happen under several previous regimes.

Mullen will probably lose out to Stoops for SEC COTY, but any other year he would probably win it.
Digest this: when is the last time since Tebow left that we have had a QB throw for 23 TDs and just 6 picks ?? Answer? We haven't. Our run game has been solid and his staff have done a good job overall.
He has had an approach to coaching a new team that had the team buy in early after he arrived. He doesn't scream all the time and realized the athletes at UF needed a role model that they trusted. He has an acute sense of humor that make players relate and relieves stress. On the football side he demonstrated the ability to gameplan and improvise during crunch time.
Stoops obviously had a team that was tough as he was. He did kind of sneak up on teams early...but he steered them through tough waters. Next year? UK loses a lot of important seniors and will be interesting to see how well he does.
Just checked and UK loses all FIVE DBs who started. Josh Allen, Denzel Ware & Jordan Jones all gone at LBer.

I was very meh when we hired him, but I have been impressed all season with what he put on the field. He gets the most out of our guys and am happy to say I was wrong not to be excited when we hired him.
The future seems bright!

I'll say it right now and won't back down from the statement.
He will win a national title in. And within the next five years. He is very dangerous with talent which he didn't have at State.
Give him another year to build his vision. We should be a yearly top ten team after that.

We just need a rock solid OL & DL to get there...we have a lot of skill players...its the trenches were games are won or lost usually.
We already have some quality players on the DL..they did get shoved around some, Slaton, Campbell, Conliffe, Dunlap all return...except for Dunlap the other three were true sophs and still learning/growing. DE should be good with maybe Zuniga, Zach Carter, Chatfield, Langham to name the ones returning. We will need an infusion of depth, talented depth.
OL will have Banks, Bleich, Buchanan, Forsythe, McCoy, Moore, Heggie, Taylor. Gouriage, McDowell. Hard for true frosh to start in SEC games on the OL...physically and mentally. Do we have 5 starters ready for SEC battle? Of course Taylor has 2 yrs starting exp. Buchanan started the game on Saturday. I think our early games will help the OL develop as a team by the 5th game ? Would love to see a big nasty OL transfer or come from JUCO to help.

I said to the doubters back when we hired him that there would be a Mullen/Miss St transitive factor. For instance a 7 win season at MSU would be a 9 win season at UF. 8 wins there, 10 at UF. 9 there, SEC championship here. 10-11 wins there National Championship here.

I forgot that Moon, who is 6'6" is also a rush DE/LB and will be a Jr next year.

When he gets his own Quarterback it's a fricking wrap.
He was literally coaching guys who were pretty much fullbacks who could throw it far.
Now he's got guys who have had QB coaches in high school, who are running.
Really, the defense is almost there but it has depth issues, but those will be fixed pretty easily I think.
After that, the way Perine has progressed, even Pierce.
Our best WRs are transfers that he recruited (but doesn't show up in recruiting classes). Man, it's just a matter of getting the right guy at QB -- even if it means Franks checking down more/falling forward when he runs, we'll still be dangerous.
But one of the Jones dudes? We're there. Just need the depth on defense.

I’m not following recruiting too hard.
Is one of the Jones boys the answer?

Debose, none of us know for sure...high school clips are always impressive...but its a huge jump to SEC play where the teams are loaded with talent that were one of the best at their high school.
Jalon appears to be a QB who possesses size, speed and arm strength to be a great fit...but he may have to develop under Mullen for a year. The good news is that with the new redshirt rule tr frosh can play in four games and get used to upper level football.
A Tua type QB is rare and Trevor Lawrence at Clemson are the exceptions not the rule...but who's to say Jalon isn't a similar beast? Both of these QBs enjoy rock solid OLs, and a defense that can erase mistakes though.
And we cant rule out Emory...who just might be the future? Competition will be strong and Franks will be a junior and may be hard to unseat if he improves as much by next year as he did the year before. And even if he remains the starter...he will be a junior and Emory a frosh.
2019 will be fun to watch unfold...unlike so many unknowns in 2018..we now know what we have as a HC and except for OL we should be returning a very good team that will start out ranked in the top 15.

Im not worried about the OL, I think theyll be solid. Next year we’ll still have a nice stable of backs n receivers. We need a QB to step up and take over the offense. Defensively we’ll have to find our passrush as we’re losing our 3 best rushers. Carter has looked good and Moon his flashes but we’ll need others to step up along the interior of the DL as well. LBers should be good and a healthy secondary will be a no fly zone with Wilson, Henderson and Dean

Let’s see if Franks can catch and move him to TE...if he loses the starting position that is
That would be hell to defend. Converted QB at WR (Toney) converted QB at TE (Franks) and true QB one of the Jones boys.

We have good TEs already. He’d never see the field eitherway

Lewis and Stephens are R-SRs
We have Krull, Gamble, Pitts and Lang...none of which have played in more than 2 games

Jalon has a lot of good qualities about him, monster athlete with size and speed who keeps his eyes downfield but loves to run.
Him with Mullen will be dangerous.
Emory, I'd have to see a lot more but I trust him to be ready in a year or two.
